Update on daughter
Hi all, I went with Debbie to her Dr's appointment in D.C. Wednesday. She was admitted to the hospital with an infestion. They had to open up the wound and now she has a hole in her stomach about 3 1/2 inches deep. She got discharged Friday night. She is doing well . She is not smoking. The Dr' told her to quit and gave her patches. She is having pain in her back. I remember having pain in my back too so i quess this is normal. She has just went on the soft diet stage and doing well with it. I just pray that she heals well and doesn't have all the complications I had. See all lighter. Joanne
Another gal I am helping had similar experience at PA Hosp last week. I guess some people are prone to these infections. Glad I didn't have to go through that. She told me they had to open her up without an anthestic...I would have said no way....drugs first. LOL. Glad to hear she is progressing well.

Debbie
Debbie, They did the same with her but she is doing well. Her wound is so pink and healthy looking. I keep telling her she will not have my problems for mine kept dying every week and getting bigger each week. She had no drugs plus they wouldn't let her smoke a cigarette afterwards. It was hard. She hasn't had a cigarette since. I have to say I give it to her. I never smoked but she is giving up food and cigarettes all at one time. I would imagine this is hard. See you lighter. Joanne
Hi Joanne,
I haven't been here for a while but when I had my surgery a year ago , I also had to be readmitted because of an infection. I was in an extra week and was taken to the OR three times to be cleaned out. Tell her I'm thinking about her and yes, get as much protein in as possible. The more protein the faster she will heal. I had a "wound vac" which helped heal from the inside out. Does she ? It is annoying but in the end it is worth it. Tell her this is just a bump in the road to wellness she will be better soon.
Sandy
Sandy, Thanks for the info and thinking of Debbie !! I also had a wound vac but only for a week. It was the worst experience I had. My incision was dying. Debbie is doing well now. She is doing dry packings twice a day. She will be going to the wound center soon for care. They may decide on doing a wound vac. Her wound is healthy looking and will do well with a vac . She knows this is a bump in the road and is accepting it well . We talk about this alot. We both have old school Drs who don't beleive in protein shakes. She is doing shakes and can't get in her protein without them. I will keep you posted on her. See you lighter. Joanne
