Not Loosing Anymore - Gastric Patient - BCBS ALSO UPSET
Hello everyone..I haven't posted in quite some time..been kind of busy with a new life, new job, and a new me...it has been an exciting time for me..but I haven't been loosing that much for the past month or so...I have lost a total of 100 lbs since March 9,2006...but for the past month it has been kind of stagnant...I gain a couple and loose a couple..Is this normal?
Also, I didn't go to my 6 month visit due to all this insurance crap. I don't have the $125 bucks it is going to cost for a checkup...I don't know what to do? Should I just continue follow ups with my Family doctor? What to do?
Thank you for any input..
Kathy
Hi Kathy,
You may want to re-evaluate your protein intake. I still have to supplement my protein with a shake or something every day in order to get enough in. Also, you may want to look into your exercise routine. The last time I was at Irgau's office, he told me that the protein requirements were about 100 grams per day, and about 1200 calories. Good luck & keep up the good work!!!!!
To be honest I don't count protein intake and I don't exercise..I know I should but I don't know how to get motivated to do it...I eat and I eat lots of nuts and things with protein..I have never really had a problem with anything..and I do get hungry..but I tend to eat about 6 meals a day..small of course but I eat all day...again mostly nuts, and stuff that is good for me...
Thank you
Kathy
I didn't do a lot of exercise either because it still hurt my joints to move too much, but Dr. Irgau told me that if I didn't get moving, I'd not lose anymore weight. So I made up my mind to get moving. I realized that I didn't go through the surgery, just to twiddle my days away. I couldn't depend on myself to get on the bike every night while watching TV, so I decided to join the gym, and knowing that somebody's looking over my shoulder has motivated me to watch what I eat, and to get moving. Find an exercise buddy - that helps!!! Do what Deanna said too - change up your diet - try other foods. If you eat the same old thing day after day, you'll get bored and more likely to start eating things you shouldn't. Like for breakfast, make your own version of a burrito with a scrambled egg and some cheese and salsa on 1/2 of a tortilla (or a whole one if you can manage it - get the whole wheat ones). That could be a dinner too. I also like to grill shrimp and then toss them on some salad greens with a couple of croutons and parmesan cheese for my version of any restaurants grilled shrimp caesar salad. Be creative! Good luck!!!!
CHange your diet routine. You body will get "used" to your habits if you are eating the same things at the same time every day. Shake it up a bit, keep your body guessing. Eat ad different times. Eat different foods. One day eat more, the next eat a little less. Definately supplement with a protein drink (be sure to count it as a meal). See if that doesn't get the scale moving.
Kathy, Excuse my ignorance but why won't BCBS pay for your visit? I have BCBS PPO and they are paying for mine still and I am 18 months out. I do have a different Dr. I think it is normal to slow down and stall weight loss after losing 100 lbs or so. Your body may be playing catch up. Try keeping a log for a few days just to see the amount of calories and protein you are getting in daily. You might be shocked. Remember Protein, water and exercise!!!! You will lose again and if all else fails go back to basics. See you lighter. Joanne
