Hi Kathy, welcome to the Delaware board. The hunger that you are feeling is most likely head hunger. It is an awful thing to experience, and we all have and still do. The best advise I can give you is go for a walk, get out of the house away from the food for about 15-20 minutes. The feeling will pass and you will feel better. This is a great group to be a part of, we try to be there for each other. If you can try and make a few of the support group meetings, I know there is one this coming Monday at PMRI and one next Thursday up on Silverside Rd.
Good Luck

Hi Kathy, Welcome. Gosh I was one of those people that had to force myself to eat. Food really turned me off at 1st. Remember protein, protein, protein 1s****er 2nd. Get all that in and you should be pretty full. Did they know what caused the pain?? Unfortunatly some of us "Mourn Food". You might be in mourning. Then again you might be feeling "head hunger." Whatever it is, try to deal with it and work through it. Let the nutritionist and the Dr's know . They might have some helpfull hints. Try to make it to a support meeting. It might be helpfull to talk with others who have been through the same thing. Hang in there. Each day gets better and better. ((HUGS)) Elissa
Kathy,
Congrats on your surgery! Your pain could be just from the internal plumbing healing. If we drink to fast early out it will cause the feeling of an elephant on your chest. If you eat too fast the same elephant will come back. Sometimes the stoma is very swollen and makes it hard for things to go down. The hunger feeling could be head hunger or very well hunger. Are you keeping a diary of what you eat and drink and when? You should be drinking most of the day.....eating every few hours 1-2 oz of foods (liquid stuff at your stage) and most importantly doing your vitamins. All of this will definitely help you with dealing with head hunger. Get yourself on a schedule for foods and vitamins. Your body will regulate to those feedings and you will be surprised how much better you feel when you do this. I know if I miss a feeding I feel like crap until I eat. I hope this helps you and if you need anything else just drop a line! Remember you are not in this alone and we are sorta like the Verizon network. There is always someone around.
