Hi Everyone! I'm a newbie, four days post-op. Has anyone else had any trouble getting the urso forte in? The thought of even crushing that horse pill throws me into a gag reflex and the thought of having to drink the liquid form for SIX months is nasty. I've heard that other practices are not requiring it. Any thoughts? Thanks!

What's Urso Forte?

Urso Forte is a medicine to prevent gall stones. I had the same problem. I am 3 weeks out from surgery. I didn't take it for about 10 days and I finally called the dietician and asked if I could try to take it crushed in a little pudding or applesauce. She said I wasn't supposed to be eating applesauce yet, but if it was the only way I could take the medicine that I could try it but make sure it is no sugar added. I found the musselman's no sugar added berry and I am able to eat this very slowly and get the pill down....but it still isn't very good. the pills are very bitter. I don't know if it was a good idea to go against the program since I am still on liquids, but other than a little applesauce, I am 100% on liquids.

Sounds YUCKY! I had my gall bladder out with my RNY....A two for one. It was full of stones so why keep it. If you are worried about doing applesauce can you put this crushed pill in water?

Tammy, us oldies took Actigall. It was beyond nasty. Good luck. I barely got it down in applesauce after the 1st month. I just couldn't do it when I was a newbie. Made me gag. I think we were all thrilled when our 6 months were up. ((HUGS)) Elissa

Tammy, I am just 7 months out of surgery and I suffered through the URSO Forte myself. I mixed my crushed pill with oatmeal and splenda or yogert to cover the taste of the bitter pill. The only issue is I got very tired ot oatmeal and yogert. Good luck Carolyn

Hi Tammy: Congratulations on your sugery! I had the same problems as you do when I took the Urso Forte. I tried numerous times and finally gave up. I called Dr. Wynn and let her know and she warned me of the possibility of having my gall bladder out before 6 months. The doctors do not want to have to do surgery on you before 6 months. I never had any problems with my gall bladder. Keep trying and good luck. Kim

Oh, I only heard of Actigall before. I had my gallbladdder out almost 9 years ago so I was never instructed on these meds. I hope you find something to help.

I was a bad, bad girl. Don't do what I did. I tried to open and mix it in foods for a few weeks, couldn't keep that up. So when I was transitioning to solid foods, I decided to just (against dr's advice) swallow it with water. I then developed ulcers, I know this is why. After that, I quit taking it and just crossed my fingers that my gall bladder didn't act up. Do I reccomend this? NO. Dianne PS Congrats on surgery and good luck on your journey.

I took the Actigall for the full six months, although I did swallow it whole (shame on me)......but I still ended up with gall stones and had to have my gall bladder out 13 months after RNY ! Ken
