HELP !! We are four days out of surgery and the puree food is beginning to all taste like dog food. Please, any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. We have done the veg beef soup, beef stew, refried beans with and without cheese and all the sugar free pudding he can eat. Tonight we will be trying the puree chicken with fat free gravy. I hope it tastes better then all the others. How are you suppose to make it for 30 days eating this stuff??? Thanks for any help.

Hi Sandy. So how is Rob feeling???? For the 1st month my tatse buds were awful. Everything tasted gross. Even my favorite homemade soup (pureed of course). I did alot of smoothies. Yogurt mixed with frozen fruit & protein powder the 1st month. Blended in a "Bullet" and slightly frozen. Oatmeal was safe. Pureed Progresso bean soup was safe. I ate alot of mashed potatoes & cheese too. I got real creative and made a corned beef special. Put a slice of corned beef, a small piece of cabbage and lots of thousand Island dressing and chopped it to a puree. Tasted like corned beef special spread. MMMM. For my Italian fix, I made a very smooth polenta and put sauce on it. (Polenta is corn meal mush with 8gr of protein. Tastes a little like grits or cream of wheat) Rigotta is fairly smooth and has protein. Buy a small container and try to get fat free. Mix it with a little SF pistachio pudding or canned pumpkin for a different taste. If I could have put a small piece of hoagie and found something to loosen it up with I think I'd have tried it. I really lived on SF popsicles. Gosh hang in there GF. It will go fast. Is Rob walking some? It will help with all the bloated gas from the surgery. Speeds up the recovery too. Thanks for letting us know he is home and doing okay. You have my number, call me or email me if you need support. ((HUGS)) Elissa

Sandy, I hated the pureed phase.....I would not go near baby food or anything that didn't look like its original form....I did a lot of yogurt, popsicles, cottage cheese with apple sauce and flax seed combo, refried beans sometimes (gas was bad the first time so I limited that stuff, mashed potatoes with cheese in it, cream of blah soups, jello, protein shakes....that was about the limit of my diet through that ugly period. Just remember its only a short while and hopefully when you get to soft foods it will be a nice change and you never have to go back to pureed again! To tell you the truth I didn't really feel like eating for about 6 mos....so getting through the beginning phases were sorta easy for me....

Hello ladies, Thanks for the suggestions. Rob is doing ok, considering what he went through in the hospital. He has very little energy and stills has feelings of being groggy from time to time. As for the walking, he is doing some, but according to him he thinks it is very little because he used to do more walking before surgery. But he is getting there. He still has his staples and the drain in, we are suppose to go to the Dr's on Tuesday (the same day as the next meeting) to have them both removed. Not sure that he will feel up to coming to the meeting that night, but we will try. Hope to see you all there. Thanks again for the support, we are lucky to have such great people there for us when we need them. You are all angels from God. Bless you all. Sandy & Rob

I loved pureed chili! The spicy didn't bother me at all. Actually I'm all about the spices now. I guess I just want as much Flavor as possible in my little portions. I also would saute some ground beef, chop it up in the bullett good and mix it in with my mashed potatoes.

All good suggestions. My faves were the tuna, ricotta cheese, cottage cheese, loosely scrambled egg, and underwood deviled ham. Shrimp in the processor with a couple seconds on pulse, was good too. Mashed potatoes with cheese in them was a good one. It will pass. Just keep the protein supplements going and cheese on everything is good. Try the carb countdown milk for the extra protein. To help get the fluids in use the sugarfree popsicles. Elissa's responses (now and then) are very creative and got me thru my puree stage. Remember, this too shall pass. Dianne
