does anyone know a surgeon in Delaware that performs WLS on teens? I'm 17.

I think you need to check with your Primary physician and your insurance company. I really don't think it's an issue of age, it's more related to what is your BMI and if you have any co-morbidities. Also, at 17 you probably will have to have your parents sign for you. Good Luck!

I think most surgeons have age restrictions on surgery because teenagers are typically still growing and changing. Those changes affect the surgery results. Most university hospitals have adolescent divisions that are specifically for teens suffering from obesity. I went to the Hospital at University of Pennsylvania in Philly and I know they have a program, but that may be kind of far for you. You may want to look for a university closer to you or look for a hospital that has an adolescent program. Also you should visit the Teen WLS board, they may be able to provide better info: http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/teen_wls/ Janine

My son goes the the obesity clinic at AI and as far as I know they are not doing any surgeries yet. I think they may look into doing banding in the future. Jen
