I have coventry of DE. We are a small group in maryland and i have been told that because I am a small group that WLS is not covered and because I am in a small group we could not afford the premiums for the coverage. However, my question is isnt it state law for Maryland (where I am a resident and where our coverage is purchased through) that if it is medically necessary the must provide coverage for the WLS? And does Maryland law say if you are a small group are they allowed to deny me coverage even if it is medically necessary?

Kelli, I would post this question on the Maryland forum as well perhaps they can help better with the laws of that state. Debbie

Kelli, If my memory serves me correctly, we've had folks opt out of Coventry when the time to sign up for coverage is up and go to a different insurance that would cover WLS. Do you know when the sign up is with your company? Look into other insurance companies that will cover WLS. Debbi had a great idea to check with others in Maryland. Which state will you have the surgery if approved? It takes a lot of courage and fortitude for some of us to get approved and have WLS. Good luck on your journey. Elissa
