Anyone ever tried Medifast?
Ok I had to go to your profile to see why you were asking this question. It says you are not considering surgery. You will find we have tried every diet out there and they all failed. My daughter said the same thing before she went to a support group with me. Now she is looking into surgery. Please feel free to attend one of our support groups. I run a group in Harrington on the 3rd Thursday of the month at the Harrington Volunteer Fire Company. 7p.m. I said I was not considering surgery for a year myself. Now I am 14 months out and my only regret is not having it sooner. Please feel free to come to a meeting or post anytime whatever decision you make. See you lighter. Joanne
I have done Medifast and Optifast. They have you drink only......Shakes are about 500-800 calories a day. That is what helps you to lose the weight the limitation of calories. The shakes are suppose to have the nutrients your body needs to survive. I did them years ago and lost 100+ pounds. I gained 200+. That is one of the problems with this "Diet". You can snowball the weight loss to a double gain! Can you say OUCH! Although the lose is sweet and you do feel good with it. You also run the risk of gall bladder stones with this...I guess the overweight and quick loss is the reason...I never really looked up the medical ramifications but you could google it and see what you find. If surgery is not an option for you I would do something simpler.....WW or South Beach. Loss is not so great but you can do it easier. Also because your calorie limitations are under 1200 you go into keotisis which keeps you from being hungry. Bad breath is a sign you are in it. Good luck with what ever method you decide to go. Healthy is the best feeling and I hope you get to it!

Joanne, I too have tried about a dozen different diets and programs. I had considered surgery about a year ago. I did all kinds of research on different types as well as the lap band. I know my insurance would not cover it because I am not 100 lbs over my max and I have no co-morbidities. I am basically on my own and started out this year at 213 (I am 5'3") and am now 194. I want to do this on my own. I appreciate the invitation to the meetings and will keep it in mind. You never know what the future holds! Thanks very much for the reply! Happy 2nd day of Summer! 8-)
Debbie, Thanks for the information! I was worried about that part of losing it all and then gaining it all back and then some. Yep...OUCH! That's happened several times. I was just sort of hoping for a little jumpstart. My husband and I are going on our first cruise this October and I was checking out the Medifast program to see if it would be worth it. I just don't know if the stuff tastes like ca-ca or if I'd feel like I'm truly hungry or just head-hungry and if I could get through gatherings at work and with friends without torture. I also agree with your last statement about feeling healthy...that's really the most important thing! Thanks so much for replying! I appreciate any information I can get from a person who's actually tried it instead of all the websites that go on about how wonderful this stuff it. I wanted to hear some "real world" answers. Thanks again, Debbie!
I did one of those liquid diets before... it was supposed to make me lose tons of weight. Well ummm... I lost about 60 pounds and "found" about 75 once I quit doing it. I remember the weight coming off... felt great but once I started to incorporate solid foods back into my diet it was up the scales for me again.
I don't recommend it but I recall there were some that were succesful. I don't think it would be a good long term thing... I lost bunches of hair and my breath was horrid!
