Need info about Lap Band

I need someone to help me with answers about the lap band procedure. i have a friend that wants to get the band done, Is there an age that a doctor won't do the procedure and is it true that you have to be a certian mody mass to qualify?? Thank you inadvance for your help in this mstter. Beth

Hi Beth......I will be having surgery soon, not lap band;however, I am going to a place called Delmarva Bariatric in Salisbury, Maryland. They specialize in lap band and have a very knowledgable staff. you can check them out online.....their phone number is on there. I have the lapband but I am not sure how to answer your question. I do think each dr is different but from what I have read over on the lapband forum, there are folks in there 60's getting the band done. I do think you have to be a certain size or else your insurance won't cover it. I think it is the same guidelines as RNY meaning a bmi over 35 is a plus. If she is self pay, I don't think the bmi matters. I also highly recommend Delmarva Bariatric Center as that is where I had my surgery Robyn Hope that helped a little!

Hey Robyn.....How are you? I have been thinking about you lately....are you doing well? I am scheduled for surgery on June 21, but I still need approval from insurance. Luckily, gastric bypass patients do not do the liquid diet, so I am lucky there! I couldnt be happier with Dr. Bovard and his staff.........they are the greatest!
