Questions!

I had my surgery on 5/3 and when I went to see Dr. Peters last Wednesday I lost 18.8 lbs. - needless to say I was so excited. By no means am I complaining but I know I'm not getting nearly enough liquid everyday (maybe 30 ozs. a day) and while I walk about a mile a day now (which is pretty good for a woman who didn't like walking to her car in the driveway!) I'm getting a little frustrated because I haven't lost a pound since last Wednesday (again, not complaining) but I'm sure it has something to do with not getting in enough liquid. I can tolerate all the foods I've been eating with no problem and am currently getting maybe 40 grams of protein. I want to make sure I'm doing everything right so I guess my question is, is this normal to be almost 3 weeks out and not want to drink anything at all??? I've tried Fruit 2o, Propel, the water sensations, crystal light, etc. and nothing likes to go down - it actually hurts for a while. Again, I'm not complaining, I'm so very glad I had this surgery - I have more energy than ever and although I can't see an almost 20 lb. weight loss yet I feel better. I was just wondering if anyone had any 'trade secrets' or suggestions to keep me on the right track. Thanks! Gina

Have you looked on the May board ? http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/05-2006/ There are a lot of people that may be going through what you are . I had my surgery and go to the Sept 05 board and it seems like everybody there are going through the same things sort of at the same time. You could be in a stall. Don't worry that is just your body getting used to things. You may find that instead of losing pounds you are losing inches. Have you measured yourself lately ? I seem to lose a couple of pounds then stall , then go down a size. Congratulations on your loss I always look at it this way. That is weight gone for good and on your last diet how long did it take you to lose 18 pounds ? So far I am down 77 since surgery , not as much as some people that had surgery in Sept 05 but I have never been on a diet before where I lost 50 pounds let alone 77 ! Enjoy the ride ! And be proud of yourself for being a "LOSER" Sandy

I find that I tolerate hot or warm liquids better than the cold ones. Try drinking decaf tea or coffee. I also drink Carb Countdown Chocolate Milk.

Gina, I had my surgery on 4/3 and I went 3 weeks and did not loose any weight. I do remember reading that around week 3 post op that your body does a readjustment and you stop losing weight for a week or two. It drove me out of my mind. I finally had to put my scale away and stay away from it. I also have had a hard time getting in my liquids becuase I can't take big gulps of water like I use to. I did go to Happy Harry's last week and purchased a "Water U" bottle. It is a 2.2 liter/74 ounce version of a water cooler water bottle and since I bought it I have had no problem getting in my fluids the way I should. Good Luck. Deanna
