Hi, I am 16 days post-op - RNY -- had my surgery at St Francis Hospital - Dr Michael Peters Jr -- with Dr Irgau assisting. -- is there anyone out there from Dover area? I have lost about 20 pounds so far. This liquid diet is not too exciting right now :) Would love to chat about experiences. The worst part of the surgery for me was actually having the catheter removed -- OMG! I have been lucky no real abdominal pain. I had to stay an extra day because my heart rate was running high -- 110- 120's. I am a big football fan -- love the Minnesota Vikings. thanks! don

Hi Lew, Thanks for your e-mail. I have read your diary and it sounds like you are doing awesome. I will certainly e-mail you. I am a pharmacist, and I work at Bayhealth Medical Center and Happy Harry's. (I am one of the night shift pharmacists). It was sure different being on the other side (a patient) instead of a caregiver. Tell you best friend that I am a Viking Season Ticket holder and that if he ever wants to see our Vikes in Valhalla (Minneapolis :). - Let me know. I try to go to one game a year at least. I am always happy to help a local Vike fan get to see a HOME game. I have lots to questions -- what local support group do you belong to? I e-mailed a group out of Harrington - who is having a meeting on May 18th I believe at the Harrington Firehouse (I assume it will be easy to find :). Continued success on your weight loss. P.S. Hello Don, Nice to see another person from Dover as well. I had my surgery done last March in 2005 and in just over 13 months, I have now lost 272 pounds. I had a roux-en-y gastric bypass and am doing remarkably well with it. I traveled to Havre de Grace, MD for my bypass, which was a choice to do along with Blue Cross Blue Shield. You may certainly e mail me as well and talk. I also go to the meeting in Camden and there is one in Smyrna I get to every so often as well just to see the people there because they are so nice. Hi Joe, It looks like you are doing awesome. Thanks for your note of support. My work schedule is crazy - once I go back to work - I work the night shift at KGH - 7 nights on, and 7 nights off. I work at Happy Harry's on Forrest Avenue - usually Monday after noon and saturday mornings. -- I would like to go to the support group in Camden, but as you can see my work schedule is not amenable to Monday evening meetings, and that is why I am investigating the Harrington group at this point. Thanks again Joe :) Don

Hello Don! I'm also from Dover and like Joe, I had my surgery at Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace. I had open RNY on 23 May 05 - I'm almost at my one year. I've lost plus/minus 100 pounds which is 75 percent of my excess weight. I had heavy steroid treatment for another problem and have been at a stall for a few months now. Since you're a pharmacist, you KNOW the side effects of steroid use - I experienced ALL of them! I do travel to Havre de Grace for my support group meeting the second Tuesday of each month. It's a long drive, but I have a special bond with my friends there. I've also tried the Camden meeting. The people there are equally as nice. You will find that different physicians have different programs and guidelines. You just have to weed out what the information that pertains to your program. I don't know the date of the Camden meeting. Joe, can you help me out? I need help now too. The bottom line is we're all here for one reason, to help each other with their quest for weight loss and better health! Welcome to the board and good luck to you on your journey! Jean PS - I'm a customer of Happy Harrys by Metro Food Market.

Hi Jean, Thanks for your note of support. It makes me feel good to hear from all the "local" people. I never realized how many people there are locally who have taken the steps that I have to improve our health. Sometimes it is hard to get in the 90 gms of protein each day that I should take in. I'm a little low in the energy department, but I am also getting back to the gym also. I go to Lifestyles at KGH. Thank you again :) Don

Hi Don. My husband is the one that runs the Camden Support Group meeting. We meet on the second Monday of each month at 7:00 pm. The next meeting will be on June 12. We have our meetings at the Friends Meeting House on Camden-Wyoming Ave in Camden. Congrats on your recent surgery. We all share our experiences at our meeting and hopefully some of us post-op folks can help you with any questions that you may have. Hope to see you at the next meeting. Lisa RNY 7/20/05 268/156/130

Hi Lisa, Thank you for your information! I will try to check out the Camden support group if my crazy work schedule will allow it :). I work night shift at KGH pharmacy and at HH on Monday evenings and saturday mornings, so my Monday's are usually crazy :) - but maybe I can make some kind of switch or change if possible. My warmest regards to you and your husband. Don
