Hi Rob! I'm happy to hear you're doing well. I see a plastic man on Wednesday of this week for a consult. I'll be one year out on 23 May and have a lot of excess skin/flab pockets around my tummy. I also have a hernia which I hope can all be done at the same time. How long will your recovery be? How long was your hospital stay? Jean Open RNY/23 May 05/ pre-op 321/present 218/goal 192

Hi Jean, If they know about hernia prior to starting the procedure they will take care of it when they go in. Since my bi-lateral was a surprise they need to fix it later. Dr. Malek told me today that from a positive perspective, although I had to finance the abdominal dermioplasty out of pocket, when he goes in for the hernia repair he will do any revisions and tightening that might be necessary. I just in the hospital overnight. As far as recovery they say two weeks of no driving, and out of work. For my procedure and the fact that they did not have to tear any muscle, the surgeon expects three-four weeks of swelling, and four-to-six weeks away from the gym. Found out at my appointment today that my drains need to stay in till Friday. Yucch. Just means that I can't start walking with the same gusto that I did after RNY. Make sure that you check out several PS before you settle. Every one has different procedures and you need to understand what is not being removed as much as what is being removed, since disappointment and failed expectations are two of the main emotional problems with TT. If they just do the TT you may still end up with flab pockets in the back and on the side of the tummy. Take the time to understand the procedure you are getting. Also make sure that there is someone that will be home with you after surgery since I feel that the is much more invasive than RNY. I didn't really need anybody with me after RNY and was up and walking, cooking my own meals a day after than the RNY. With PS you need to worry about your drains, lack of mobility, and pain killers. My wife has been a rock, but she has missed some work. My daughter has helped to get me to follow-up appointments with the surgeon. So you do need support. Swollen and heavy for at least another week, Rob

Hey Rob Good to see you posting. I thought that I had made up my mind about not having any PS, but now I'm thinking about it. I still have some weight to lose first, don't know if the hernia can wait that long. And to complicate matters more, I am still on the blood thinner as my blood is prone to clot. So, I am torn... Glad to hear that you are doing well and that your hospital and surgery experience were good. I know that you did your homework and expected more pain than the RNY, but so sorry that you have to go thru it. It's wonderful that you have such great support people in your life. I like the idea that Pastor Faye had about having someone bring you drawers to organize... You must be going stir crazy. Hang in there, Rob. Dianne Day Sixteen !

Hi Dianne, Congrats on day sixteen. Ok, every drawer in the house is organized, time to move on to something else. No matter how humiliating it is to go into for the PS pre-exams you should go ahead and get those taken care of, just in case the hernia raises it's ugly head. Then at least you can get an additional procedure taken care of at the same time. You keep doing the good work. Your friend...Rob
