Topic: RE: Hello, I'm new
Hi Taylor,
I'm new too, so glad you posted. I see a lot of people have had Dr. Raftopolous, so he must be a good surgeon, as many like him. I am having Dr. Jonathan Aranow when I have my Open Gastric Bypass probably in early December. Check also in the Main Forum where people post from all over the United States. That place is always buzzing with posts and much info. Great source for learning. The people on the CT Forum and the main forum are wonderful with responding to any questions. Wishing you well as you travel the road to a healthier you!

Topic: RE: Newbie with a difficult decision
I haven't had my surgery yet; not till the end of November or into December of this year. But....
Originally I thought I would get the Lap Band, but in going to my doctor's seminars (awesome), I realized the Lap Band was not for me at all. Why? Mainly because I have a lot of co-morbities: Diabetes, congestive heart failure 2x last year, high chloresterol, sleep apnea, high blood pressure. With the Lap Band, the results of losing weight would be much slower, the chance of completely ridding myself of any or all of the co-morbities would definitely not be as good as if I were to have the Open Gastric Bypass. So, with MUCH research, going to support group meetings and discussion with my doctor and other RNY patients, I have chosen to have the Open Gastric Bypass. It would be my BEST option overall and for the long run.
I have learned of too many that their bands have loosened and fallen off. That's not to say there are many that have made out perfectly fine with the Lap Band. I just realized it would not be a good choice for me.

I had the band put on 7 years ago and I'm about to have a reversal to a RNY. It was a waste of my time but of course that was me. I'm only one person.. I only lost about 30 lbs with still 130 to go

Topic: RE: Lapband switching to gastric bypass
Hi Angela,
I just had the switch done last week, so I am really to new to share much with you. It was not my choice as much as what I needed to do, my band had slipped after two years and the vomiting was unbearable. I had it removed and have just converted to RNY. I believe all things happen for a reason and those two years were years where I learned what to and what not to do.
I must say I am in more pain this time than I was last time for the type of surgery, but I have not felt hunger in several days and it has been more work to make sure I get the protein and fluids in then ever before. I will keep you posted on how I progress, but this far I am feeling that it is a better choice for me in that I still want to lose weight and I want to regain my overall health.
