Topic: RE: Connecticut board needs to get moving.....
Hello Everyone, Today is my 5 year anniversary for Gastric Bypass. I originally lost 100 pounds and have put back 70 of that back. I had a great recovery from surgery. No complications. I want to be honest, I failed the bypass it didn't fail me. I was able to eat junk food and opted for it versas high protien foods that made me full. I didn't learn what to eat and how to eat. I am on my way to haven a revision done. I hope to get it Mid April, or May. Dr. Bell is amazing, he will be doing the revision as he was my origion all dr who did the RNY. I am not going to fail this time around, I am going to beat this demon and never be at this spot again. I have gone through alot the past 5 years and feel that I am at a better place in my life now. NOW I"M READY !!! I thank God that he is giving me a second chance. I have 5 small children and a hubby and family that need me and want me to be healthy and that is my drive as well as feeling good about myself. I look forward to being active on here and hope that my story will help others to stay on track and don't let anyone get you down.

I am 49 years old and have been separated for some time. I have been heavy all of my life but my health started to be affected a few years ago when I went through many life changes in a short period of time. I am unemployed searching for a job with a Masters in Human Services and have been unsuccessful in finding a job. I originally was going to have the RNY then learned of the DS, however, my insurance would not cover it. Dr. Roslin informed me that the VSG (step 1 of the 2 part DS) was better for me due to my BMI and that my weight was mostly in my belly and that I had a large hernia. Unfortunately at the time the VSG was not covered either. On Halloween night (2010)I learned that the VSG is now covered by my insurance. I made an appointment as soon as I could and had my first consult Dec. 2 and at this time I am waiting for approval. I chose the VSG because of the Drs. recommendation but also because after he recommended the VSG and I researched it and read many posts of successful VSGer's I decided that this surgery would best fit my lifestyle and I did not want to endure some of the things that you have to with RNY or DS. Everybody has their reasons for choosing the surgery they chose and I wish success to all!

They gave me my surgery date yesterday - March 4th, I start Optifast tomorrow. It caught me by surprise a bit and I'm a little concerned because I won't be down to the weight he wanted me at pre-surgery. They haven't even submitted the paperwork for insurance but seem confident it will come in time. I guess they know the business better than I :)
Topic: RE: Middlesex Hospital??
I had my surgery November 1st and I thought Middlesex was better than Hartford Hospital as far as my care was concerned. I got careful monitoring in a private room and everyone was friendly and caring to me and my family.

Hi Kim,
Dr. Robles is in the same office as Dr. Aranow who I had. My stay at the Bariatric floor for my surgery was grrreat. I wish you a good journey and know that you are in very good hands. I will say that the 1 mile/day through the hospital halls I was told to do was SO HELPFUL. I have continued 1 mile/day on my treadmill and it certainly has helped me to get stronger daily and in SO much better health. You will be real glad you have the private room. I was very pleased with the nurses/staff. Middlesex was a great experience all around.
Keep us updated on your progress.

Topic: RE: New London County - BARIATRIC SURGERY SUPPORT GROUP MEETINGS:
This is a little late but the group was origionally started by a fella who was sick of going to New Haven for meetings. It is a good meeting because there are people there with many different surgeries and doctors. It's a pretty good group and now that I am on first shift I can start attending regularly.

Thanks maboots for responding! I am happy to hear there was little pain. I did decide to go with a plastic surgeon and they scheduled the surgery for 2/14....now I'm nervous! Hope you are doing well and are happy with your results! Thanks again!
