Topic: SUPPORT GROUP QUESTION
Hi everyone, it's been quite a while since I posted - I hope this note finds everyone doing extremely well and anticipating getting out and moving our butts in the spring warmth and sunshine! I have a question and I'd be very grateful for your insight. I'm 5 years out of surgery and struggling - have only gained 15 lbs. from my lowest weight and am maintaining in the mid-150s, mostly concentrating on fitness and strength, rather than the #s on the scale - but it's become quite the battle. I find I can eat anything in just about any quantity this far out and I am battling the emotional eating that propelled me to nearly 400 lbs. in the 1st place. If anyone else is struggling with the issues, feel free to email me off list, or respond here - we're all among friends! My question has to do with support group meetings. Are you finding any that you attend regularly to be of help to you and if so, where are they? I used to attend Middlesex's SG meetings (my surgery hospital) and in fact presented pretty regularly - but I was very disappointed in the last couple that I attended; just didn't get the support I was looking for. Have things improved at the SG meetings at Middlesex, or was it just what I walked away with? What about the meeting at L&M in New London? I haven't been to that one in a long time, how is that one going these days? Any others that you find particularly helpful? Thanks - please consider this an SOS, I think I'm in real food trouble. Be well, all - Maureen

I am Avalon5 and I just went to my very first consult on Friday to help decide if I was a candidate for Bariatric surgery. Because I had surgery for chroic relux almost 10 years ago, i didn't know if I would be eligible.
The good news-I am! I am excited about starting on this journey towards reclaiming my life. i have already made my appointment with the nutritionist and have left a voicemail to see the LCSW.
Luckily, my family is very supportive and I hope my PCP will be as well. The APRN for the Bariatric practice is actually a longtime friend, so I feel very comfortable with everyone I have dealt with so far.
I will probably have bypass due to the previous surgery, but my MD things it can be done without much trouble.
I'm glad to be here as I am a little overwhelmed by all that needs to be done prior to the actual procedure.

Topic: Primary Care Physicians
I'm just curious how you all feel about your primary care dr's both before and after surgery. My PCP is going on maternity leave and is part of a large practice, Hartford Medical Group. I'm not crazy about the Dr's there but I can always get an appt. when I need one and they have eve. and weekend appts so that's cool.
But, they don't seem to know ANYTHING about WLS or patient care after the fact. I'm considering looking for a new Dr. but not even sure how to begin to look for one that's familiar with post-op WLS life.
So, the challenge, if you choose to accept it my fellow nutmegers, is to tell us about your PCP Dr. and whether or not you think they're going to be a good fit for your post-op WLS life. Why or why not?
Thanks! Joie

About 2 weeks ago a friend(Paul) wanted to fix me up with a friend of his, so one night while Tony was over his house he called me, and Tony and I chatted a bit and exchanged phone numbers. Tony and I continued to talk daily for the last 2 weeks. Well last night we met. Paul and his partner had us both over for dinner so we could finally meet. Tony is such a sweet caring guy. I was'nt disappointed. He was really interested and concerned in hearing about my various health/diet requirements. I told him about the nausea, and my 4 hours of dry heaves that goes along with it. He said he will be in the bathroom holding my hand while I puke!!!! And that he will not let me be alone when I am not feeling well. I think I'll keep him. After dinner we went to a diner for coffee. We both felt there was something between us and we will take it slow. Will I/can I ever feel the same for him as I did for Alan? I don't know, but he is part of the healing process and I am fond of him and do care about him. Now for some info on Tony: He is 44(45 in May 6-same as my grandmother), he is 1/2 Polish and 1/2 Italian and he is an accountant with a masters degree and has his own condo with a cat. He is a music fanatic with over a thousand cd's. He has'nt been in a relationship for 2 years and in that he was used.
This is Tony, aint he cute????
Some shots of us together last night,
I love this shot,
Awwwww, I think he likes me,

Hi Sue and everyone and thanks for this post! I would be very grateful to learn of a very good therapist who has strong experience working with eating disorders and emotional eating. I can do Norwich, New London, Waterford - or up north - Brooklyn, Willimantic, Covetry... this is an SOS, please let me know. Thanks. Maureen
