My RNY surgery is just a few weeks away! Yippeeee! Yikes!! and all the other associated feelings, worries, concerns.
But anyway, I've been on the hunt for GOOD nutritionist. I wasn't impressed with the person I saw for my pre-op requirements. I had 2 meetings with her and her information was accurate but basic and very disorganized. I was not impressed and paying out of pocket so I want to get the most for my money.
That said, do any of you have a nutritionist/dietitian that you just love and would recommend? I'm well aware of the guidelines, rules and requirements for post-op eating but would really like to have a pro on my my side to help put that all into practice and help me meal plan and monitor vitamins, etc throughout this process. Like how to incorporate my requirements into meals for the family and such.
There is sooo much information out there and can be overwhelming. To have a trusted source to help me break it down, confirm that I'm on the right track, help me avoid vitamin deficiencies, etc. would be awesome.
Any suggestions?
Thanks again, Joie
I am not even sure why you love Dr Aranow, I went back to a initial first meeting with him after I was post-op for a year with a friend and he told that group that the support group meetings were mandatory but not to pay much attention to the postops who attended as they were basically failures who couldn't cut it and needed to sit in support groups. Ummm yeah okay Dr A, he talked a bunch of crap about the DS surgery also, its amazing how different his speech is when you actually know something about wls. Hes a good doctor and a great salesperson, thats about it, I stopped going to him after 3 months, and started having my PCP do all the checking on me. His arrogance is just too much for me to bear, I always recommend his as a surgeon but thats it.

I am so glad you said that. I have been trying to explain to a few of the "skeptics" that this isn't the lazy way out. This lifestyle change takes work and commitment.
Everyone seems to be very nice. And I have a feeling I will become a clothes hoarder even though they might be far past their use.
Best wishes!
Jessie

: : : : :I am trying to hang in there. I have a few health issues now since surgery that we are trying to resolve. Other than that I am doing great. I don't get to excercise like I want due to the issues. I miss it BAD too. Took a walk yesterday and felt WONDERFUL. Might drag the hubby and dog-ter out again. Can't go on my own (I am passing out and we don't know why) so I have to wait until the weekend so I have someone to go with. I was always told how good I would feel after surgery and I couldn't comprehend it since I had been obese for so long. I still am amazed at how good I feel (most of the time) and how I just want to take this "new" body out for a test drive to see what I can do now.
I remember the first time I went to SG at Middlesex it was wonderful. I loved it and wished I could go back more than the few times I had to for surgery. I went when I was off for my gall bladder (I think) and it was horrible. Or maybe it was earlier than August, I really don't remember. When I have a Monday off I think, Maybe I should go to the meeting. Then I start thinking about driving for an hour and a half and how little I got out of it and stay home with the hubby. I feel sad too about the meetings too since I met wonderful people there in person that I had known from here.

It was hard to get the weight off and I have maintained (more or less) since August. NEVER let anyone tell you it's the easy way out. This has been one of the hardest things I have ever done and it is still hard with the mental issues and maintanance. I still see myself as weighing almost 400 pounds and a huge blob. I hold my clothes up and think these will never fit and still am shocked when they do or when my bigger shirts that I just can't part with are huge on me.
Good luck with everything and if you have questions ask! This board is supportive even if we get a little slow sometimes.
