Paula,

I completely agree.  I've talked with several now who are more than happy to take me as a client but don't have any bariatric patient experience.  So, for now I'm going to keep doing my research, follow my dr's plan and work with my PCP for the nutrient labs.

Part of me thinks it's silly to pay someone else so much money to help me with what I already know but there is also the part of me that would feel better with a professional nod of approval and a hand in helping me plan appropriately.

Oh well.  So far there isn't much to worry about with just the liquids anyway.  3 days post op now and I feel wonderful.  Physically this is not going to be as hard of a recovery for me as my hysterectomy was so I'm feeling much more confident overall.

Thanks,
Joie

 Tammy,

I am sorry that you are disappointed and confused.  Did he give you any reason as to why the shift in thought.  My impression was that he favored RNY versus lapband, but that was in my case. It is important that you are comfortable with your choice of surgeon and surgery.  I felt that these were the most important 1st steps for me. I would suggest talking to him again and if you still are uncomfortable that you should talk to others.

The insurance companies seem to to be getting more strict with there approval process and I think some from of pre-diet is always required.

If you do continue with Dr R he will continually be on you about your carb intake and your exercise. We discuss these 2 things at every appt. He is always pushing me to do more, which I have gradually done.

As far as exercise goes, when I first started out I could barely walk as I was having severe issues with my knees so I joined a gym with a pool. I started going to a water aerobics class and found that the water helped and made exercise less painful. Not sure if that would work for you, but it is a thought.

I wish you luck on your journey and if you need anything we are here for you.

Nancy

Thank you for the encouragement.  I love Dr. Barba too.  He is great.  I am trying to keep in mind why I am doing it and it seems to be working for the most part.  I look at it as its my new begining.

Again thank you

Congratulations on your date.
Like everyone says it is normal to be nervous. I put  myself in a frame of mind, that I wanted this soooo bad and I needed this surgery to live a normal life, that I was actually happy when they wheeled me into surgery!!  It worked. My surgery was great with no problems. Went back to work in 2 weeks, lost 135 pounds, and in Nov.  had my Tummy tuck with the same doctor, who I love!!
I have complete trust in him. As long as you follow his directions and don't push eating something your not supposed to, you will be fine. Remember, your insides take longer to heal, than the outside. You need to baby your pouch and introduce foods slowy. You will be fine. Be excited!!!! I am excited for you!! You will be a whole new person, you will enjoy your life so much more. Life is precious, we all should enjoy it!
Best of Luck to you!
Hugs,
Sarah

I am impressed for sure.  you have babies, went thru a pregancy and still found the time to do the pre-op work  that is an accomplishment for sure.

I would definetly get another opinion.  I would go back to where you had all the tests done and ask for copies and take them to another surgeon who would be able to (1) give you the same results and that alone would make you feel better  (2) give you a different opinion and which the ball is in your court and not left to the doctors' decision alone.

Good Luck

I'm happy for you Rich...I didn't even know that you and Alan broke up..I'm so sorry..what happened?  The distance?

I'd say, go for it if it feels right, but, if you think it's a rebound relationship, take it slow, you don't want to be doubly hurt and don't want to hurt someone else, either.

Doesn Tony live closer to you?  I hope so!

Keep us posted...you look SO good and handsome!  Keep up the great work!

Be safe!

One important thing to ask for is how much experience they have with bariatric patients.  If little to none, than look further.  Our eating requirements are differnt than the normal person and they need to know that.

Hi Joie,
I have Htfd Medical group, too...in Windsor...I first went to Dr Gigstad and didn't like her...switched to Dr Bissell, liked her, but she went on maternity leave and I don't often go to the doctor...but, I needed to while she was out for a bad back and went to Brenda Manfredi and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE her...I asked if I could switch full time to her and she said yes.

She seems to know a limited amount about RNY, but most PCP's only do.  You have to continue on with your surgeon for follow up care for intense supervision.

Dr Manfredi (Bissell too) have agreed to run my blood tests to keep things up to date (I'm lax about going to Aranow for my yearly) and they know what to order and what to do if something is off.

Don't know what HMG you go to, but, I'd say call in and make appts with other docs in the practice...you may just find someone in there that you like.

Topic: RE: Taking your vitamins and supplements?
Dr Aranow told me that we have to keep track of our PTH, (parathyroid) too. Cause, if the levels go up, it means that our calcium may be off and in the long run, it may mean that our bodies are "leeching" the calcium from our bones, and later in life, bone breaks, etc.  Mine keeps going up and down...

I've also found that many vitamins don't assimilate or absorb in my gi track and I poop them out whole...so, wasted money with no benefit.  I've switched to all capsule form of vitamins and my levels are ok.

It is important that we at least take our mutli vitamin, calcium and b12...these three are the most important...and, added D is good too, cause we live in a "grey" state where there's not a lot of sun half of the year and our bodies just cannot make enough itself or get enough from dairy, foods, etc.

Thanks for the reminder!  Hubby had RNY, too, and he's my daily vitamin dispensor!
