Thanks Sher - for always being a cheerleader! You are right - he did say the band is ineffective and he did tell me to have a bypass.... the change of recommendation completely caught me off guard - he actually said "maybe we can avoid surgery" - anwyay - you are right - I need to start making changes now - I know the surgery is on the body and not the head - and although I do not eat really junky - I could do better! Thanks!
Warm Regards - Tammy -

Thank you Lisa - that is exactly what it felt like - a left hook out of nowhere!! HE is the one who planted the revision seed to begin with - I was not thinking of that at all - then I get my head wrapped around the idea - and BAM - he pulls back - it was truly confusing - I wish I had seen it coming - I did say something like "you told me you didn't like the band" and he said that perhaps the band can start working for me and we could "experiment" - Thanks - I always wanted to be a guinea pig...........

Anyway - thanks for your thoughts and encouragement....
Warm Regards - Tammy -

((Maureen)) Thank you - I totally am with you that this weight is not our fault - I mean I know that I don't eat perfect - but I certainly don't eat enough to be an obese person - I know I don't exercise the way I should but there are so many people in the world that don't exercise and aren't fat - it isn't our fault but life is just not fair and that's the truth of life - anyway - preaching to the choir here - I'm not sure I need to rule this doctor out yet - I liked him on the first visit was confused by him on the second visit (I had to hear how is 74 year old father with knee problems gets up and exercises every day - I didn't bother to ask if his 74 year old father was 100 pounds overweight) Anyway - I'm going to see him the end of May - and that is when I'll decide if he is the right doctor for me... so many people adore him as a surgeon and he has a great reputation and track record.

Now as far as you go - have you considered talking to a nutrionist? Maybe you're not eating enough? Are you getting in enough protein? Have you talked to your surgeon?

Thanks for the encouragement!

Thanks Kathy........keeping my fingers crossed. Just spent the last hour on the phone with Dr. Aranows office and then BCBS .

Again Dr. Aranows office feels that Middlesex and BCBS will come to terms although middlesex has come down 3 times and BCBS has rejected 3 times. Lois also said that the other possibility was that Dr. Aranow may end up doing surgeries at Bristol Hospital if these negotiations don't pan out.  It's all up in the air right now and they will not know till next week .

As for BCBS, that was just 45 minutes of total phone rat race for nothing.

I am just forcing myself to have positive thoughts that I will have this surgery in June. (30 day smoke free is what will bring it out to June)

Tammy, first big hugs to you. Now then, down to business: find another doctor. Any doctor who treats a patient this way has no business performing WLS - if he believes it's our "fault" for not being able to lose weight or keep weight off, then the only reason he is performing WLS is for the money - I don't want a doctor like that working on my body; and I certainly don't want him messing with my head. Treat the idea of a revision the same way you treated the idea of your initial WLS - research. Know what your options are. Decide what path is best for you. Then identify the surgeons in our area with the best reputations for delivering your expected outcome. Please, please, please don't waste another moment of your precious life energy feeling bad or defeated or broken - you're not. Just like before, this is about choice - personal choice, and only you are in control of those choices and what they will mean to you and your beautiful family in the end. As you know, I am suffering weight regain right alongside you. I am fighting with all my might - and I consider myself a pretty mighty gal - but I am not winning this war. There are so, so many reasons that we are "up against it" - that we have the odds stacked against us. It is not a simple matter of diet and exercise. I am eating less than 1,000 calories on most days and I am gaining - slowly but nonetheless I am gaining. I have not been active on any support boards for a while but I had to respond to you. Your body is confused, darlin' - it's not your fault. Find another doctor once you've researched and decided upon the procedure you wish to pursue in a revision. I'm right behind you. Be well, Tammy. Don't despair, it's only as bleak as you believe it to be. Choose the sun instead. Maureen

Mine was 11 months. I had to be in the program 6 months they said but I didn't think I had to. Oh well. Then I waited an extra 2 months to have surgery take care of my insurance for the year. Not stupid. Why pay you max in December when you can do it in Jan and have everything free for the year. I waited a while between the seminar and my appointments. I had to put the foot down with the hubby about it before I started.

Thanks Kathy! From my very first information seminar until approval was only a 6 week span. I was expecting the process to be a lot more complicated and involved. he actually would have operated on me a week earlier but my work schedule wouldn't allow it. I am really excited........mainly to be rid of this horrendous reflux.

This is so frustrating I bet. Something similar happened to a hospital back where I am from. It sucks when people get stuck in the middle of insurance politics. Good luck getting everything taken care of.

Congrats! That's amazing you got approved so fast. I waited for a month.

The reflux should be better since they cut the part that makes stomach acid. I had to have an edoscopy for a blockage that was caused from reflux that I never knew I had!

Godd luck with everything.

Hi Didi!

I actually got the transitional forms before the doctor's office submitted my approval. I called Lois at Dr. Aranow's office and I now have a date for my surgery!!! But I also expressed my concern again about the negotiations between Middlesex and Anthem. She stated they were confident that things will be  negotiated...maybe they know something we don't?

I got more info on the transitional form. It is used if for some reason a certain test or procedure isn't covered by Anthem...whether it be the procedure itself, or the provider. In our case, if the negotiations don't go well, the form would explain that having our surgery at Middlesex would be necessary...and I am sure Dr. Aranow would have some supportive reasons.

Don't let it get you down Didi...we can only think positive.

Jessie
