Thanks, Dan. I appreciate your insight. I feel lucky that Dr Aranow happens to be the closest bariatric surgeon to me. It sounds like it was good fortune that when I finally got to the stage where I knew WLS was my best option that I had a great surgeon within a half hour of me. It sounds like he has a great staff too. These are all great things to hear.

Thanks to everyone for reassuring a newbie!

Those of us who trusted Dr. Aranow with our lives...... did so believing he is the best there is.... That is the surgery part of it..... even though I had a conflict with one of his staff members (no longer with his office) I worked with my primary care physician to insure that Dr. Aranow would be my surgeon.. because I am convinced he is the best surgeon..... further I have come to respect his aftercare. Best of Luck.

Kathy, I definitely hear what you're saying about doing what's right for me. I just think in this case it's beyond the normal fear of me dying from surgery, it's that it's "this" kind of surgery.

And boy can I relate to the agony of getting an IV. That's my biggest fear! I hate needles and I have deep veins and whenever I have to give blood the nurse has to dig around and I've fainted twice. Ugh.

Ok, not to try to start anything but ya need to do what you feel is right. My hubby was against it but for different reasons. I still knew in my heart of hearts it was the best thing for me to do. He really didn't support my decision until Jan 15, 2008. And yes, that is my surgery date. When he saw what I went thru just to get an IV so I could have this done he knew I was serious. Actually, now that I think about it, it was for a similar reason. He was afraid I would die but not because of knowing someone who had died from it.

The first thing that reassures me is that you all are healthy and happy with your surgery. The second is  -- look at how successful you've all been! You all look great and your weight losses are absolutely astonishing!

Safety, safety, safety is my primary concern. I had posted this on another board but I am coming from a unique situation where my MIL died from complicated related to RNY several years ago. For that reason, I haven't broached the subject of getting lap-band with my husband yet because I know he will be scared and anxious and may not fully support my decision. After I meet with Dr Aranow and if we decide that I am a good candidate, then I will discuss my feelings with my husband. Having so many positive outcomes to share with my husband about this surgeon is very important in allaying his fears.

This will be a heavy decision for us as a couple to make. Having support here on the board and being able to discuss the surgery with real patients is so helpful.

Many thanks

I have a picture of mine in my profile. I feel the same way, she's still a puppy.

I also had my RNY and then had my gall bladder out by Dr. Aranow. I couldn't have imagined going to someone else for the gall bladder. At my one year check up I found out I have a hernia starting. So it will be a hernia repair and a TT with him too.

 Kathy,

I sure do have a beagle! She's the light of my life! She'll be 7 (*sniff*) in May. She's still all puppy in my eyes though. :)

Cindy, that's good to hear about Dr Aranow. My one-on-one is on Tuesday so I'll report back on what he says.

I am not sure which surgery you are having with Dr. Aranow, but I am sure you will be very happy.  I had Lap Band surgery with Dr. Aranow and I can't say enough good about him!  He took my gallbladder out several years ago and I wouldn't have gone to another doctor.  I have onlyhad surgery 3 times in my life and Dr. Aranow was the surgeon for 2!

Good luck!

Hey Tammy, I love the preggers board. Super nice and helpful. And no, I am not making an announcement. Well, other than we are trying starting next month.
