I personally picked the RNY because of the fast weight loss. I knew if it didn't come off fast I would get frustrated and give up. There were other reasons too.

Hello,
Chosing which surgery to have can be difficult, but if you look at your eating habits, and find that you are the type who doesn't really eat sweets or other snacks and that you just like a large volume of good food I think the lap band might be ok as it will restrict the amount of food you can eat. If you are like me a like food and also all the other snack foods and sweets or fatty foods having a RNY would restrict the amount of food you eat along with some malabsorption so that you would have greater weight loss over a shorter time period. The side effects of eating sweets and fatty foods and simple carbs can cause dumping syndrom which is not a fun thing to go through (sweating, rapid heart rate, weakness, extreme fatigue). So most avoid those things as much as possible,
I chose after much investigating to have RNY and for me it was a good choice, but it is not for everyone and you have to weigh the risks and benifits since the surgery is life changing and needs to be considered permanent. You have to take certain vitamins and supplements for life and have close follow up and lab work for life.
Both surgeries are tools to help us lose weight and we need to change our ways of looking at food and the way we eat in order to remain successful. Your love of working out is a big plus, that will help you greatly along your weight loss journey with which ever procedure you chose.
Wishing you all the best on your weightloss surgical journey.
