Maybe your PCP's got patients who gained all their weight back, but it's not always the case. I'm six years out from banding and still maintaining a 200-pound weight loss.

PS: You and I have the same surgeon, so I know you're in good hands!

There is a significant percentage of weight regain post-RNY. Talk to your surgeon about the stats. They don't do us any favors by not dealing with this issue head-on. Good luck, Maureen

Topic: RE: Looking for support groups
There's an RNY support group at Yale-New Haven Hospital first Tuesday of each month at either 6 or 6:30. You can call Dr. Robert Bell's office to find out specifics if you're in the New Haven area.  They are open to everyone.

Having RNY was probably the best thing I've ever done for myself.

Approx highest weight: ~350. Highest measured weight: 338. Surgery weight: 297. Lowest weight (for 5 minutes): 169. Current weight: 209. Goal weight: ??? - maybe 180-185, which was my maintenance weight before the regain.

Hey there,

There is a support group at Norwalk Hospital with Mary Ziller.  Also at Greenwich hospital Thursday on 1/28 with Lori Nevins.  There are also support groups that meet every last Wednesday at St. Vincent's hospital at 6:30 in Bridgeport.  Good for you for making that extra step to seek out support.  All the best...

I agree.  My PCP tried to talk me out of WLS by saying she has many patients come to her after WLS because they gained it all back.

Is that really the case?

I see you and my daughter share the same surgeon.   His brother is my cardiologist.  He was my first choice.  But Debbie....  Well, lets just say It was best I choose a different surgical practice.

Although concerned, your pcp she was at least open minded and did not try to discourage you.  Unfortunately for me, a pcp rated one of the "Top Docs" in the NY tri state area told me that most people just gain the wait back in a  few years and dismissed it.  Zero discussion of my concerns.  I hope she remains supportive as she witnesses your success.
