Chewing Gum and Walking

Ok, I am now a blond joke. This afternoon I managed to swallow my gum when I tripped (on nothing btw) and now I am not sure what the aftermath should be. I remember people saying that post-ops shouldn't chew gum but now I don't remember why. I am assuming that since I can still breathe and swallow food that the end result of swallowing gum is not instant death. But what is supposed to happen? My throat hurts now but I am highly suggestible so I think it hurts b/c that all my hypochondriac brain can come up with until I learn otherwise. lol Ok, I already feel silly enough but feel free to poke fun at me.
