Hi!  I'm moving to Connecticut to the Madison/Guilford area. I'll be looking for a support group in the area as well as a physician who is gastric-bypass savy.  Any recommendations?  Also, any positives on Connecticut and the area would be MOST welcome!  We weren't planning on going anywhere but hubby got transferred to Wallingford...any location advice?  Hubby's colleagues suggest Madison and Guilford.

Hi Kristen,
One of the best surgeons and hospitals is Dr. Jonathon Aranow in Middletown, Ct. His practice is associated with Middlesex Hospital. You can look him up here on OH (upper right hand in green:find a bariatric surgeon). There is also a good support group out of middlesex hospital. He has patients from all over CT. I started out with him a couple years ago when I was interested in having gastric bypass but then I learned about the VSG here on OH. I would suggest that you research all surgerie before you make a decision if you already have not. Dr. Aranow now does VSG aslo but did not when i had first changes my mind and I am so close to my surgery date I ahve decided to stick with my surgeon in NY however, I am hoping to have Dr Aranow do my follow up.

Madison and Guilford are both very nice areas on the shoreline. They are however, a good 45 minutes to 1 hour commute without traffic to Wallingford. I live a couple towns over from Wallingford in Berlin/Kensington. Ct is a beautiful state so I would also recommend taking a visit out here and exploring.

Good luck!! Let me know when you get to CT!

Hi  and thanks for responding!!  I will have to look at the Middlesex Hospital!  Thanks for the reference!  I had my surgery last May (RNY) here so now I just need a support group and a physician.  I'm going to look at the map to see where everything is.  We visited the area a little bit last weekend--it was our first time in CT!  It was pretty indeed.  I'll let you know when I get there--it will be good to have some contacts!!!!!!

Hello,
I live in Madison and my husband works in Wallingford. His commute is only 20 minutes.  When looking for a house I suggest North madison.  Madison has the best schools.

Being in North Madison we are also less then 20 minutes away from Dr. Arannows office and the hospital.

Thanks for responding and thanks for the tip!  We were thinking it would be cool to be close to the beach but a shorter commute sure is appealing too!  Do you go to the beach a lot?  I want to take up sailing...!  Looks like you just had your surgery!  How are you doing??  I hope everything went smoothly!  My surgery was in May so I'm 9 months out now.  So happy I did it!

I am doing great. No complications at this point.  I don't get to the beach as much as I would like to.  I have four kids and they keep me moving at all times.

I agree with everyone about Dr. Aranow. He doesn't take new patients from other doctors unless you move away from them so you are in luck.

I shall now be know as Hagatha: Queen of the queens.

Cool--I guess I will need a surgeon to follow up with.  And how about a physician...?  Any suggestions?  I want one who knows the ins and outs of what medications I can and can't have....
Thanks!!
