Lapband switching to gastric bypass
Hi Angela,
I just had the switch done last week, so I am really to new to share much with you. It was not my choice as much as what I needed to do, my band had slipped after two years and the vomiting was unbearable. I had it removed and have just converted to RNY. I believe all things happen for a reason and those two years were years where I learned what to and what not to do.
I must say I am in more pain this time than I was last time for the type of surgery, but I have not felt hunger in several days and it has been more work to make sure I get the protein and fluids in then ever before. I will keep you posted on how I progress, but this far I am feeling that it is a better choice for me in that I still want to lose weight and I want to regain my overall health.

For me the revision was the best decision I could had made - granted I'm not working at the exercise as hard as I should be - I am down 76 pounds in 10 months and am totally thrilled. I never get things stuck - I've thrown up maybe two times and that was early out - I can not tolerate some foods but it's a learning curve - just like the band was - but with the band for me the learning curve never made sense because something would be fine one day and horrible the next - the bypass is consistant - if it's not good today - it probably won't be the next and if it's good today - it's reliable - I really wish the band had worked for me as it does for some - but unfortunately it didn't - the bypass has (knock on wood) so far been a good choice. Don't know what kind of advice you are looking for but thought I'd share some positive experience with you!
Best of luck

I am three weeks into the revision surgery. I had the band since November of 2001. Lost 40 pounds and slowly gained most of it back. In three weeks wth VGS, I am within 8 pounds of my lowest weight with the band. I am still figuring out how to get in protein, what to eat, etc. I had the surgery in Mexico, but I am going to see Dr. Erhlich in Trumbull for followup. I am particularly eager to work with a nutritionist. Good luck with your decision.
No. He did not put my band in, but I did see him a couple of times for fills. I called earlier this week explaining that I had been sleeved in Mexico and she made an appointment for me and asked me to bring all surgery info. Dr. Ehrlich recently started his own practice so I suspect he is not booked up.
