Dr.Aranow
My opinion is not just about Dr. Aranow... it must include his staff and the team at Middlesex. They are the best.
Dr. Aranow was factual and honest, besides being "the top Doc" according to my PCP. I have intereacted with his office staff on numerous occasions and have found them to be knowledgable, caring and supportive. I didn't have much prior "hospital care" experience but was amazed by the provided care. Since then I have talked with many and visited others in other hospitals and now remain very grateful for the team at Middletown.
Good luck as you start this journey and hang on because you are in for a life changing experience. Please post on here, to let us know how you are doing, "after surgery" care and support is very important.

There is no "one" answer to your question. I have met some who breeze through the process and others with issues that required resolution prior to surgery.. I would guess 3 months to a year. It can depend on your insurance company, your pre-op health and the related testing. You will be given the opportunity to meet with various medical disciplines, to discuss nutrition, health, and psychological "readiness" . Each appointment is an important step to prepare you physically and mentally for your surgery and after care. This is a huge commitment you are making to change your life and cannot be hurried. The pre-op preparation will help insure you have the greatest chance at life long success. I wish you continued success and invite you to continue to ask any and all questions. Dr. Aranow will require you to attend a minimum number of Middlesex support group meetings where you will meet others considering the surgery as well as those of us that have "been there, done that". All your questions will be answered. I also extend an invitation to join a group called Central Connecticut Cares that was formed to offer additional support for Pre and Post ops. To find us click on the "groups" at the top of this page and search for Central Connecticut Cares. We formally meet monthly and plan other fun social events. Sign up and Join in........ Dan

I have to agree with Dan. His staff is WONDERFUL and Lois has been with him for years. Middlesex is my hospital of choice for almost anything. (I am preggers and will be delivering at Hartford. Really don't wanna drive twice as far when in labor.) The ER (which I got to know VERY well my first year out since I ended up having the gall bladder out at 7 months and had serious dehydration problems my first year.) and the surgery center staff are just wonderful. Don't even get me started on 4 North (I think that is where we stay) since I will NEVER shut up about them.
I shall now be know as Hagatha: Queen of the queens.

Dr.Aranow is AWESOME!!!! Just had my second lap banding done a weeek ago! 1st one slipped which is uncommon according to Dr.A. However, I have complete faith in this dr. and his staff that have never faltered with faith and trust when I had started to give in on myself !!! So,I wish u best of luck with ur new endeavor!
I've been in the process since early October, and just had my final meeting with Dr. Aranow today - am scheduled for lap-band surgery on Wednesday, Feb. 24. He's terrific, as is his staff - Lia (nutritionist) is great, Lois and Diane and Wendy and others whose names I do not know (yet!) are equally helpful.
His info session is informative, the support groups are helpful; I recommmend you go to some and learn even more. And best of luck!
