Hurray!! Two milestones - 30 pounds gone and BMI under 40 - Awesome! So far so good - I've tolerated every pureed food I've tried, although I haven't tried too much - chilli, chicken salad, tuna, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, scrambled egg - I'm keeping everything at or under 2 o.z. and mostely relying on shakes to get in protein - the minimum protein I've gotten in a day since surgery is 70 - but I'm trying to keep it to 100 - I've got to work at the fluid intake since I started going down to one shake a day instead of two - I have one cup of decaf coffee in the morning (with a little half and half) - a shake throughout the morning - 2 o.z. of cottage cheese or something at lunch - sip crystal lite all day - 2 o.z. of something at dinner - and back to sipping (after the hour wait)........might not be perfect but it's working so far - I take all my supplements - accept some days I just don't want the zinc losegner it gets on my nerves......I've only been hungry a couple times and the 2 o.z. of food satisfies me completely!

I am so thankful that things are going well and I am down 17 pounds post op (13 pre)... I'm looking forward to the WOW moments - which will probably start at about the 50 pound mark

Congratulations Tammy  Keep up the good work. I switched from the zinc lozengers to just a zinc pill. Small Flat and goes down easy. You may want to switch.

Congratulations! Sounds like things are going very well and you are making good progress. Isn't it great that such a small amount of food can be statisfying?

Keep up the good work.

All my best

Oh, Tammy, I'm SO happy that the rough recovery is over and the results are kicking in.  Did the doc tell you that you had to wait an hour to drink between eating?  We were always told 15-20 min then we could drink something.

Have you tried the Smar****er?  It's full of electrolytes and will give you a boost, also.

How come you have to take zinc lozenges?

The weight loss is great!  Are you exercising at all?

Do you like shrimp?  I would puree ****tail shrimp and add ****tail sauce and have a pseudo shrimp ****tail (or do it with mayo for shrimp salad) and it was a staple for me for a long time.

Your protein intake is AWESOME...at this point in time, this is what you should be focusing on most.  The supplements will fit in with time...Make sure you're getting in enough water

Congrats!

Paula

Hi Paula - We are told to wait an hour after eating (Barba had the same rule) and actually after reading an article I am totally in synch with the hour rule - what the article said was that if you drink too soon after having dense food in the pouch over time you can stretch the "finger" size outlet to be the same size as the pouch and essentially will end up having like a 20 foot tube to fill before you feel full - also they say that the longer food is left in the pouch the better opportunity for absorption your body has - sooo after reading that it scared the sh&t out of me and I am paying attention to that rule! I haven't tried smar****er but I am LOVING the Special K protein water packets - it adds 5 grams of protein to water - I got the ice tea flavor and it is really good....Dr. R requires Zinc as one of the after surgery supplements so I take it - it says it helps boost immunities so it seems like a good idea to take it. I am exercising but not as much as I should be - I go on the recumbent bike several times a week - it is not as aggressive as the doctor would like - but I'll get there - I know it is sooooo key to getting the weight off and most importantly long term maintenance - my friend who has been so very successful with her WLS told me - don't even bother with the surgery is you aren't going to exercise and I totally believe her! Thank you so much for the encouragement and advice!

How are you doing?
