Home and Miserable

Thanks. Hey Nancy did they let you have a swab before you had the leak test?

I wasn't allowed to have ANYTHING until the leak test - it was PURE TORTURE! My mouth was so dry my lips were sticking to my teeth and my tongue kept getting stuck on the roof of my mouth - I couldn't even talk. In the Recovery they let me use a swab and through the night they let me use a swab - then they sent me for the leak test on Sat. morning when I returned from the test my mouth was so dry it was just horrible - I asked the nurse (she was a new one - Sonia) for a swab and she said no - you are not to have anything until the test results are given to the doctor and he says it's okay - I told her they had given me swabs and the doctor who did the leak test said it looked good - but she still refused to give me a swab - I started bawling my head off - I was high on the dilaudid and so, so, so dehydrated - I didn't just cry a little - I howled like a screaming newborn. The nurse was a real B%$#!!! What a horrid, horrid memory ingrained in my head - I will be glad when some time has passed and the image of the inhuman treatment becomes a distant memory......
Warm Regards - Tammy -

Hi Tammy darlin' - every day will get better. I am disturbed to read of how you were treated in the hospital. Your hospital stay is a reflection on the surgeon so you must tell Dr. (can't ever remember his name!!) about this, ok? If you have a frank conversation with him, he will most likely look into this and you may well prevent the same thing from happening to another patient. Please take good care of yourself and rest, rest, rest! I will look forward to a cheery update very soon! Maureen

Tammy, It has been 18 months and to be honest I can't remember if I got a swab but I'm pretty sure I was drinking fluids after the test. My treatment was wonderful and I feel awful that your experience has not been pleasant.

I know it is hard, but try to focus on good things. Thing about the weight loss, and the improvement to your health and before you know it the bad start will be a faint memory.

If you need anything let me know.

I am sorry to hear that you are feeling poorly right now and even sadder and, quite frankly, madder that you got such crappy treatment at the hands of a nurse. As a nurse, it really ****** me off to hear how any of my colleauges can find it in themselves to treat someone feeling miserable, and *****ally needs them, so badly.  I agree with Kathy's post- be sure to mention that treatment to your doctor. Medical staff with sucky attitudes give the rest of us a bad name and all the patients a bad time. Sending you positive thoughts and healing energy!

I am home and misarable also I just can't get comfortable. I feel better each passing day ( I've been home since Thursday 10/22). All I remember is waking up in recovery and saying please let me die, I had so much pain that was the only way I thought it would go away, my operation took 4 hours because I had so many adhesions they had to remove. I hate pain I am a baby when it comes to pain, I can't wait to reach dull pain.
