Heartbroken

Hi Folks!

It has been exactly a week since I found out that my company will NOT take the rider out of my insurance stating that it will NOT pay for the GBP.  My initial reaction last Thursday was shock, numbness, feeling heartbroken and utterly devastated.  I cried on and off all day on Friday.  I'm trying to take a positive approach and see this just as a setback.  There must be a reason I wasn't meant to have the surgery this year.

Tammy, congratulations on your upcoming date!!  I'm absolutely delighted for you!!  If you are still interested, let me know closer to the date of sugery and I will chose your anesthesiologist and nurse anesthesist.

I wish everyone nothing but the best!!

Allison, I can only imagine how  disappointed you are. I can't understand why companies or insurance companies themselves can do this. I feel that they are not educated enough on the long term health benefits that can be obtained with this surgery  and the fact that they will save money in the long term. I know for me it was a life changing surgery.

I hope that your situation changes sometime in the future so that you will be able to have the surgery that you deserve to have.

I had a setback along my journey that put off my having my surgery for an additional 6 months or so, but the wait was worth it.

I wish you best, do not lose hope.

OMG Allison - I'm so, so, so sorry - that's such a shock - is there anything you can do?

I've never really used this site but perhaps it will be helpful:
www.obesitylaw.com

Also, Is your office an actually hospital office or a contracter? If it is an office of St. Francis Hospital and the hospital itself doesn't believe that covering the surgery is helping people over come a "handicap" then I would think Dr. Raftopolous would be an advocate for change.

Maybe you could request a meeting with Dr. Raftopolous and tell him? He is a powerful person in the hospital - maybe he can influence the decision?

I'm so angry for you right now Allison - if you had a heart condition you'd be covered, if you had a host of other issues you'd be covered but once again obesity is being judged as your fault - and it's not - the discrimination is maddening!!!

Don't give up - try to keep up the positive attitude!

My date is 10/9 - BUT I too am waiting for insurance approval!! I'll keep you posted....
Warm Regards - Tammy -

I wasn't sure if my insurance would pay for it and I have a great friend that explained it to me this way- "if you needed a car you would take a loan out for that so if you need this surgery then go get a loan for it.  You getting healthy is more important then getting a new car."
And you know what?  she's right.  We always put ourselves last.  but we are important.  So try to do it.
Good luck.
