Hungry??

Hello All, I don't know if anyone else has experienced this or if it's normal?? I was OUT OF CONTROL hungry yesterday..it wasn't "head hunger" it was honest to goodness need to eat hunger...I haven't experienced this since the surgery last April. My pouch didn't "growl" but I "felt" hungry...like I needed to eat (am I weird or what?) Normally I eat 3 meals and if needed 1 or 2 oz's of cheese during the middle of the day..for snack (after dinner) at night something "sweet" like grapes or raisins... Yesterday here is what I had B - 2-3 oz 0 Fat Bologna, with some cheddar cheese (didn't fini****) When I got to work 2 hours later I was HUNGRY...had this snack "filed away for emergencies" S- 4 whole grain crackers with melted cheese (finished) About an hour later...you guessed it...HUNGRY S - 2 string cheese (finished) L- Atkins chicken & string beans meal...(Almost ate the whole chicken about 3-4 oz's and had a few greenbeans) A few bites of low fat yogurt. D- made tacos for the family & I had the meat with some lettuce and cheese...didn't finish. Maybe 4-5 oz's?? S - low fat yogurt with sliced strawberries and a mouthful of granola. (maybe 3 oz's if that got full quick.) I NEVER eat like this...what the heck happened to me? I'm proud that I went for mostly protein but still...I'm freaking out that my intake was ALOT for me, and I'm playing right now with a 5 pound plateau for 2 months. (I have to laugh because a "normal person" would say what you ate is nothing..but for me...it's like a TON of food.) I stay well hydrated as soon as I get up I start drinking fluids (crystal lite or flavored water) then at work have my ritual coffee...and water, crystal lite...water & more fluid..I definately get in my amount of fluid daily...constantly drinking. On a side note my "monthly visitor" stopped in a week early (got it last night) so I don't know if this caused me to have munch mouth? Is this normal or is my body trying to tell me something? I honestly don't think I'm getting as much protein in as I should be and am trying to keep tabs on it. The funny thing is I WANTED protein...it was like I couldn't get enough of it...WEIRD?? At almost a year out how much are we able to "eat" comfortably? I know everyone's pouch and tolerances are a little different but if I can get some ideas/suggestions it would be appreciated. I just don't want to see this become a pattern this late in the game. I'm SOOO afraid of gaining weight. I'm thinking I'm eating about 1/2 - 3/4 cup a food during "meals" but this is give or take depending on how my pouch is or if I want to eat. I also work out at least 2 times a week at Curves and added walking back in (3 miles) on the weekends now that nice weather ha**** Thanks for letting me share my concerns, and I apologize for the novel I wrote! Hey Micky, It happens, not sure for me if its boredom or what, but have actually caught myself going on that track. It usually happenns when I get a bit stressed about work. Am usually tired and just seem to be grazing. The fact that we recognize that this is bad for us lets us know that we are still in control and get back on track. Especially this weekend when just about every treat imaginable will be trotted out in front of us. So, just know your not alone and do your best from all the temptations that will come before us! Take Care, Julio

Thanks for your words of support Julio. I definately feel "more control" today and monitoring EVERYTHING that is going in my mouth. It wasn't anything emotional I was feeling or boredom I'm usually pretty good about "checking" myself in that area but honest to goodness...gotta eat now feelings...hopefully it won't happen too much in the future! I'm actually cooking dinner this weekend...so it's regulated and I know exactly what will be prepared (along with the desserts)...LOL...plus we're making it a point to get out on the trails to walk and work out in the yard so some extra movement will definately help keep the mouth munching at a minimum. mouth munchin' at a minumum...say that 5 times fast! It's nice to hear that everyone else experiences this at one time or another and that we can share our concerns & frustrations. Take Care and have a GREAT Holiday Julio, Mickey

I think your period could have something to do with it, happens to many women. But it is possible that maybe you need to eat more. What does your Nut. say your intake needs to be at this point? I am a year out but I am hardly the one to ask about what is average. lol I can really put down some food when I get ready and I am pretty sure that I am not supposed to be able to. Throw in a few protein bars and what you ate is how I eat everyday. I am pretty sure that the only thing that saves me is exercise and you are doing that. So....basically I would say find out what you should be eating and follow that. -Christine D. (who is eating a full cup of tuna as we speak)

Hey Girl! A full cup of Tuna beats the heck out of a Sleeve of Pringles! If I'm going to slip on my eating I make a point of making that "Slip" all about protien! Take care, Julio

Hi Christine... I haven't seen a Nutritienist since before the surgery as a consult..I've been pretty much taking care of myself in this department and consulting on line here or refering to my WLS books. I should check into a nutrientist at this point in time. The Plus side is I just had a complete physical with tons of blood work and my vitamins are excellent..I'm not missing anything vital or low in any one area so I think I'm doing ok. I'm pretty consistent in making sure my vitamins/calc/B12 are daily. I'm addicted to the soft chew D & K vitamins...I call them my dessert..Love the carmel..LOL.. Thanks so much for giving me your opinion I greatly appreciate it. Mickey

Hi Mickey, I'm not even a week out but seeing what you ate on your "tirade" could have been sooooooo much worse. You may have felt like you had no control but in reality I think you did. You ate nothing but good food. I'd say that now and then, eating more than usual is a part of being "normal." Since you feel more control today, it sounds like a phase you got through with flying colors!!!!! Keep up the GREAT work! {{{{HUGS}}}} Sandy

Thanks Sandy, I feel a little better today and it must have been due to my "visitor" coming earlier than the norm. (side effects of all the weight loss.) I worked out in the yard & just came back from a 3 mile walk with the hubby so hopefully that'll "balance" any extra calories I had over the past few days... Enjoy your holiday, Mickey
