Lightheaded & Woozy Attack

OK, last night around 10 I got up from the couch and I felt completely lightheaded and woozy. I immediately drank a bunch of water and grabbed a few pieces of cheese/coldcuts thinking I needed to eat something. It seemed to go away after a while, has this happened to anyone?

Might have been low blood sugar. Maybe it was a one time thing and you won't have think about it anymore. But if it keeps happening let your doc know so you can monitor your blood sugar.

Paul: I went through a period when I was a year or so out where that was happening all the time. Not "gonna pass out" light-headness, but enough - and frequently enough - to concern me. It was not low blood sugar, low blood pressure or dehydration. After a battery of tests (from head to heart and stuff in between), they found nothing and eventually it just went away. That's the part I hate the most. (laughs) You know what I'm gonna tell ya, right? Call your doctor! Bette

I have vasovagal syndrome, which is also called neurally mediated hypotension (the low blood pressure only happens during an attack). You get light headed, dizzy, black outs, and pass out. I had my tilt table test to confirm it prior to surgery, and I am glad I did, cause it worsened after surgery. Jen

Yep. They did that one, too. Everyone from the MRI and CAT techs to the cardiologist to the neurologist shrugged and basically said, "I dunno." I'm glad it just went away on its own, but that leaves open the possibility that it will come back on its own, too. Bette

Hi Paul, Yes this very same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. The only difference is I actually passed out! I woke up on my kitchen floor- it was very scary! I had to get 11 stiches across my nose (I actually broke my nose too.) This has NEVER happened to me before. I have been through numerous tests and the Dr.'s haven't found a thing wrong with me. I finally got a few answers from my surgeon. He thinks it was due to dehydration as well as malnutrition. I make sure to drink as much as my pouch can hold. My advice- drink your fluids and make sure to get that checked out with your Dr. Take care, Christine

Hi Paul, I've had this before. For me, it's my blood pressure getting too low and when I stand up, I feel woozy like that. I was told to add some sodium to my diet. It could be a slew of things. If it keeps up, I suggest you see your doctor and have him/her check things out. Hang in there paula

Hey Buddy, I hope your doing okay now. I went through that a couple of times and had my blood sugar checked. I was okay but it was scary. Check with the doctor just to make sure. Your looking good my dear. Miss chatting with you. My best to you. Hugs KimC
