I made an appt FINALLY

Well...some of you know that I've been over 2 yrs from following up with Dr Aranow and his practice for my RNY...laziness, lack of focus on my own health, having my PCP do the blood work, yadda yadda yadda...every excuse not to go in...I'll be 4 yrs out in Sept.

SO, Stacey called me today and told me that the blood work that I had done by my PCP didn't include everything they liked to have checked....and, it looked as if I wasn't coming back to see them...

I said, "Yes, I want to"...and she cut me off saying..."When we send a patient a certified letter and recieve the signed card back...it's their proof that they contacted us and their right not to see us again and to close our file."...

WOW...I guess it's fair!  So,  I made an appointment with his new aprn...she sees all the post ops and she's on time and doesn't make us wait...WooHooo!!!  I'm going on Sept 14th at 10:30!

One of my huge issues was that he was going to scold me for gaining 25 lbs and for not coming in and such...I have a complex about his judging me.  Don't know why...Cause he's a pretty boy, I guess...That surgeon's inflated ego, I guess.

I'm having my blood work done again before I go in.

My thyroid is caput and I have to take Synthroid now, that's a new issue...family history big time.

I feel good about this.  Relieved that I'll get good care for my RNY and not have to see the doc!  Why do I let myself feel so inferior and intimidated?  We used to have a great working relationship..I guess I'm just afraid that he's pissed that I haven't been in.  Crap in my head.

Awesome Paula - good for you for taking control and getting this "guilt" thing off your shoulders - it's obvious it's been bothering you for quite a while - good job!

It is great that you have made an appointment to be seen. So many people have trouble with some regain, you are not alone. You have kept off the majority of your weight loss, so you should not feel like a failure. You have done great. You can get back to where you want to be.

The new APRN is great! She is super nice. Plus side is she doesn't know us from before and can't really judge us.

I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around what Stacey told you - but I'll let it go... kudos to you for doing what you have to do for yourself, Paula! This is about you - no one else. When it's all said and done, no one really is invested in our weight loss, physical health and wellbeing - we are the only ones that can personally invest in ourselves. The irony is that we judge others when we feel that they are judging us - people may spend a nano-second sizing someone up - assessing my looks, my age, my too-loud laugh... people in the final analysis, I am not a huge blip on that radar screen. Does this make sense? The only person who matters is YOU. Do what you need to do for yourself, ask the questions, get the answers and when you don't get the answers you need, keep asking. I'm right behind you - have gained 20 lbs. My appointment with Dr. A is 9/21. I will direct that meeting - not Dr. A.  Take care, sweetheart and keep us updated. Maureen

I wanted to respond to your post sorry it took so look. I was also getting the letters and everything I was 2 years out and didn't want to go for the same reasons you did. I had gained weight since he did my revision of a slipped band from a different surgeon. So I made the appt with the aprn and sucked it up and went.. She was great and Dr A popped in also asked were I had been. asked how I was doing. He couldn't of been nicer and he said nothing about my having gained weight. So have no fear go and get it over with. I know I felt so much better after talking to them. Kinda of like when you finally get your over due pap smear done. So don't worry. Hope your doing well let us know how your appt goes.  I feel like I know you just from reading your post over the last 4 years.   Rene :o)

Thanks for your reply...I can't wait to go now!  I need to get back on track and really need to live up to my end of the deal.

I've lost some of the weight that I gained, so, I feel good about that...I just need to make sure everything else is status quo.

Maureen and Paula, how did your appointments go?  I have been following your posts and am having Lap band done on Sept 30th. My DH has seen Julie twice and likes her, likes Dr.A also. He had Lapband 2 years ago and is doing great! Lost 130 pounds!

I had to postpone my appt until Oct 6th because I forgot to get my blood done!  So, I pushed it back...I hate having to drive so far to Middletown to get blood drawn...Does everyone drive all the way there for blood draw and back again for appt??? It's tough sometimes.

I'll let you know how it goes when I do get there!
