FOR WOMEN ONLY!!!!!
Is there anyone out there , that after many years of not having a period and undergoing a hysterectomy several years ago with no menopausal effects, suddenly going through the hot flash stage?? I have just gotten a hormone patch as I have been sweating and having mood swings. I felt that since I have not had flashes and other things related to menopause that I was free and clear( most women hated me for it) now , I think that I am gong through this and I am wondering if this is a result of the WLS Is there any women out there in this boat , or can shed some light?

Hi,
How old are you? Do you have any ovaries? I was under the impression that even if one has a hysterectomy, that you still go through some form of menopause...I'm not a professional, so don't hold me to it.
I'd get in touch with your gyn and discuss this. It may have to do with your WLS, but it may just be a normal occurrence for your age, etc.
I have two sisters that have had hysterectomies and both had some form of menopause, though not at intense as a woman that has her uterous/ovaries, etc.

Hi BlkNectar -
I totally sympathize with the hot flash thing!
I had my WLS 5 months before having to have a hysterectomy (with ovary removal as well).
My menopause symptoms started right away (and I hate it but I still get occasional hot flashes even 2 years later).
From what I hear - overweight women's bodies produce lots of estrogen, so if your WLS was after your Hysterectomy the loss of your weight could be the reason for the decrease in estrogen and hence the onset of the hot flashes.
I opted out of doing hormone replacement but sounds like you are getting hormones now and hopefully that will even you out so that the symptoms diminish.
Good Luck!!!
