Indigestion?!?!
Happy St Patrick's Day everyone.
I have a question... I started fish on Monday. Everytime I eat tuna (with light mayo) or soft fish (light cod or sole) I get MASSIVE indigestion. Doesn't matter how much I eat, I could eat 1/2 ounce or the full ounce over 10 minutes or 40 minutes. It HURTS! I have never had so much indigestion in my life! I don't vomit or anything, I am not nauseous. I get the hiccups sometimes.
Is this normal with certain foods postop? Should I tell my doctor?
Jen
Hi Jen,
Anything that causes pain should be reported to your doctor so definitely let the office know about this. Also, since you're not even 4 weeks out, you should introduce new foods very slowly. If the fish is causing you a problem right now, steer clear of it for a while. This is normal. You can try it again in a couple of weeks and you may be totally fine with it. Just be sure to be eating the foods the doctor has ok'd for your stage. Very important to stay on plan in the early stages. In my opinion it may be too early for you to be having this type of food. Also, keep in mind as you move from stage to stage, if foods in the new stage give you trouble, drop back to the previous stage (liquids, puree's, soft foods, etc...) for a while.
Good luck!!!

Dr Barba told me to go on fish as of last Monday. He also told me to start Chicken this coming Monday (two days from now). I have very much been staying on plan, cause I am afraid of what would happen if I didn't. I am a wuss.
Anyway, I ended up puking for about 3 hours last night. Mostly mucous, but some digested fish with Pepto.
I am on Prevacid for 3 weeks post-op as per all RNY patients of Dr Barba's so I already have antacids on board.
I do well with everything else, it's really just FISH. Everything else goes really well.
Thanks for the advice guys!
Jen
