Looking for cheap protein
I am a bad post-op. Too lazy to mix my own protein drinks, I have either bought commercial shakes or just gone without. I am still using the same jar of EAS protein powder that my mom bought from Walmart after surgery. But after almost a year, it is almost gone.
The point is this: Where can I find some cheap protein powder? I am trying to save money by buying fat free milk and making my own protein shakes. But while looking online it seems that they are all pretty expensive and then there is shipping. I would go back to EAS from Walmart but I was wondering if there was a less expensive option. (it was like $22 for 12 ozs) I should add that I am not picky, I have found that almost anything can be acceptable if you add enough Splenda.
Also....does anyone have a protein bar receipe that isn't the "protein ball" one that has been going around. That one always seems to require that you keep it in the fridge and I need something I can leave at my desk in case of an emergency. And no one ever seems to know the nut. facts on it either. It would be great if someone had one that involves pnut butter, sugar free chocolate chips and south beach cereal b/c thats what I have on hand. Thanks!
Hey Girl, GNC's regular Whey Protien is prety cheap, I make my own Protien drinks with the powdered milk in a blender. They work for me. The Isolate blends easier, but is more expensive. Just put it in a sports bottle and shake it up. I collect sports bottles and just a few drinks at a time. They both come in vanilla and chocolate. Hope it helps! Take care, Julio
P.S. Still waiting for that new picture!!!!!!!!!!

Christine,
Though GNC does have a "cheaper" protein powder, I've found that they can be VERY expensive..sometimes up to double for the same thing I can get at a small, mom and pop health food store nearby.
Make sure you do your homework for prices...
You can find protein powders online too, that offer free shipping..
www.wlssupplies.com is one of the places I've bought from before.
Walmart also sells jugs of protein powders..
As far as price goes vs quality of the powders and ingredients...I am a firm believer in "you get what you pay for"...so, I'm not opposed to paying 30 dollars for a 3 lb jug of Isopure powder or 20 dollars for a jug of Unjury unflavored powder...you only have one body/life and have to treat it well...
With some research, you can find things cheaper, but not necessarily with bad quality..I found the same jug of Isopure at GNC for 49.99 and found it online with free shipping for 29.99...20 dollar savings...

Here's a recipe for you to try out Christine for Peanut Butter balls.
Peanut Butter and Oatmeal Balls
1 cup Peanut Butter (try for a no sugar added kind)
1 cup rolled oatmeal -- not the instant stuff
1 cup protein powder (try Matrix Chocolate, but you can use other flavors/brands)
5 packets Splenda
Warm the peanut butter in microwave about 30-40 seconds -- it melts it and makes mixing in the other ingredients much easier.
Add the oatmeal, protein powder, and Splenda and mix well. (If needed, you can add a little bit of water to make it easier to mix)
Roll into walnut sized balls, refrigerate. Store in fridge in zip-lock baggies.
This recipe makes 20-24 balls.
Variations:
- ½ Cup Sugar Free Syrup in place of Splenda
- Add Peanuts for crunch
- Add Sugar free chocolate chips for a special treat
- Try Southbeach cereal in place of oatmeal??? Could Work!
Good Luck!!!

Gosh I guess I am even a worse post op- haven't touched a protein drink since week 4. I do take the unflavored protein powder- unjury, and mix it in things- like Wendy's chili (can'tget much cheaper than a 99 cent chili from Wendy's!) I add a scoop of unjury and that's an extra 20 grams of protein added to the chili. The fiber does me good too if ya know what i mean.
Thanks everyone for your responces. Last night, I was bored so I decided to use the variuos variations of the protein ball receipe that I had seen so often, including the one Carla has posted here, using the ingredients that I had.
Oh boy, well I am not the domestic sort but what came out was rather interesting so I am going to use it often I think. Here is what I did.
1 egg
1 cup of chuncky peanut butter
1 cup of south beach cereal
1/3 cup mini chocolate chips
1/3 cup of sugar free syrup
Mixed them all together using a spoon to fold it all together, greased a cake pan, and baked it for about 15 minutes. There is nothing in it to really make it cookie like so what you get more of a granola type deal. Its perfect for me. I can sprinkle it over cottage cheese or just eat it with my hands, works out fine. The chocolate chips are only 9 carbs per tbsp and there is maybe 4 tbsps in the whole thing, so its low on carbs and rather tasty. Thanks guys!
