I am new to the boards, I am gearing up to get my date for surgery. I  have the last apt with Dr. Barba's  on August 20th. I am getting nervous now, I cant belive how this 6 months have flown by. I have to do my sleep apnea test still and thats all I have left. This is all becomming real. But I cant wait to have a healthier life.

I am writing to inform people of a problem I had with DR. Carlos Barba. I was informed in February of 09 that I was approved for gastric bypass, and that I had to start all my testing. I went through the 6 months of testing that was required, spent alot of money on co-pays and the nutritionist (Melissa was great). I got a date of October 6Th 09. About 2 weeks before my scheduled surgery DR. Barba's office called and informed me that they had made a mistake, and my surgery was never approved! NEVER APPROVED?! Are you kidding me??? I was amazed at the rush to cover the mistake they had made, And not only did they try and make it look like I had known the whole time but refused to give me a full refund of the money spent in their office. Dr Barba did end up giving me back $100 for the drink mix I bought thinking I was having surgery. But it was after fighting for it. He also gave me $150 of the money I spent in his office. Still it does not nearly cover my out of pocket expenses. So BEWARE when dealing with DR. Carlos Barba's office. I know he seems so funny and nice when you first meet him, I am just saying cover your bases. Follow up after you get an approval, call your insurance company and make sure that it is covered. Obviously some of his office workers don't follow through and I ENDED UP HAVING TO PAY FOR THEIR MISTAKES!!! Good Luck!

Best of luck to you -  Sleep test SUCKS but hopefully you will only have to go once. I had the surgery 2 weeks ago and have done well - I have lots of energy though I'm only eating 1/2 cup of soft food 3 times a day. Good luck!
