WLS and antidepressants
Does anyone have any experience with taking antidepressants after surgery? I am waiting to be scheduled for RNY and wondered if my dosages would need to be changed. How can you figure out if they will be absorbed differently (and need to raise the doses w/o waiting until I get depressed)? The surgeon was concerned by the number of antidepressants I was on, but this is the only combination that has consistently worked for me after years of failed attempts. Are any of you still on a number of meds after surgery and do you have trouble taking all of them?
I am on meds and have not had any problems with them at all. I didn't have to change the dosage before during or after my surgery. I think that I might be trying to get off of one of them soon though. You will most likely be depressed after the surgery as that happens to most of us so DON'T STOP them before the surgery.
Hope this helped some.

Hi there- the issues you should be aware of regarding effectiveness are time or extended release medicines. They will NOT work properly after surgery. So, that's definately something you need to discuss in advance with your Dr. You don't want to have to do it in a 'crisis' mode, after surgery if you acn avoid it. So, have the conversation now and see what can be done to avoid future problems.
best of luck,
