Hello All... Yes, I'm alive, can't say I'm well but still kicking. My weight loss stopped around 8 months ago then I lost a few pounds and gained them back. Been yo yoing ten pounds for the past six months. I'll give a quick update for my immediate issue im having. I am having major stomach issues as far as bowel movements. I was going from one extreme to another which caused me to tear my rectal muscle. I had surgery to fix the problem on Dec.22nd, was out of work for 8 weeks ( how embarrassing ) and since then have been having more and more issues. Currently am back out of work due to 24/7 diarrhea (spelling?) My PCP has diagnosed me with severe depression/anxiety disorder and IBS but thinking may be more due to I am having major spasms in my intestines. ( had major life changing happenings including lost my home due to breaking up with my BF of almost a year/ was abusive situation, my dad was in the hosp. for 2 months and had his leg amputated, moved back in with family) It is an awful feeling and is very stressing...No wonder I am having anxiety...lol So now that I aired all my humiliating past few months here, the question. What can we take for diarrhea??? I was going to just take Amodium but I wasn't sure. I just need to figure something out for the weekend. Pepto is not working at all after 5 doses. Hopefully they will figure something out monday after some test results are back. I haven't called Dr. Aranow's office yet. I have a follow up appointment scheduled for the 24th but I don't think it should wait. Any advice? By the way, I miss all of you and will atest to all you newbies that having the suppoort of the Obesityhelp members helps a great deal. I have strayed for a very long time and am kicking myself in the butt for falling off the right path. I will update my page very soon. Julie Open RNY 8/9/04 410/255ish/?

Julie, Ask your doctor for a perscription for some Lotomil. These are very tiny pills for the diareah, and they work very well. I always have some on hand espically when traveling. For the intestinal spasms and cramping ask for some Donnatol. It has been around for 40 years and works great. It does contain a 1/4 grain of phenbarbitol and that calms the aniexty in your head while the rest of the drug works on your colon/intestines. I have been using donnatol since 1978.(I've always had a nervous stomach). Good Luck! --==Richard==--

Hi Julie, I'm a newbie here ... a week and counting. I have had IBS for about 9 years. It's not fun. I'm not concerned about "dumping" after I have the surgery ... been doing it for so long it's a part of life at this point. My doctor said as long as Imodium AD works for me, use it as needed. Dr. Aranow would be the one to let you know for sure ... can only tell you what my experiences are and will gladly if it can help. So sorry to hear about all the hard times thrown your way. The way I look at it is, it HAS to get better eventually and it does. I pray a lot and get lots of answers even when I'm not listening. Sometimes it has taken me days to realize that I'm getting them. He doesn't quit bugging me until I do. Hang in there ... all will be okay. {{{{HUGS}}}} Sandy

Hi Julie. Long time no see or hear. Sorry to hear about life. Hope things are getting better for you. Yes, you can take immodium as on the package label. Have you talked to your PCP about something to maybe help with the stress/depression?? Honest. well worth it. Pepto will not help with IBS at all. It is for the stomach, and has little effect on the causes of IBS. Sorry Peter
