Post-Op--Gas, Burping and Bloat, Pain??? Anyone else??
This is very common post op. They pump your body full of liquids and gasses during surgery so it's very common to feel this way. The best thing for the gas is to walk as much as you can when you feel up to it. I used to walk up and down the length of the house. It really helps get things moving. As for the water, you probably won't be able to chug water for a long, long time. At almost two years out, it still sometimes causes me pain. Take small sips whenever you can. Pops do count as fluids as does sugar free jello and broth. Rule of thumb this early post op is to sip, sip, sip and walk, walk, walk. Hope this helps and congratulations on making it to the loser's side.

Kristen,
I learned early on that when I was sipping, I'd flutter my tongue up and down and for some reason, I'd be able to get more down. Sounds weird, but it helps.
I found that trying water at different temps helped. Dr Aranow told me that a lot of post ops have problem with plain water because of it's temp, ph differences, etc.
I added the tiniest bit of Chrystal Lite powder to a jug of water just to change it a bit and that helped too. I even let a SF popsicle melt in it to give it a different flavor too.
As far as gas goes, you can use Gas X chewables...they really help a lot too. Walking is best.
