Here I am, getting tipsy off of one Mike's lemonade, and wondering if those of us who have had the Gastric Bypass actually have a difference in the speed of change in blood alcohol level. Of course, reacting to the alcohol differently due to a loss in weight is definitely a factor too. Maybe we could use a meter... anyone interested in some kind of experiment? Dave

Count me OUT! I already get buzzed on one Mike's lemonade - I won't be able to smell them after surgery without getting plastered! Those are so good - I especially like them in the summer on a hot day when they've been sitting in a cooler and when you put your hand in to grab a drink it gets numb because the water is so cold..........ahhhh summer can't come fast enough! Have fun with your experiment! Best Regards, Tammy Count Down: 12 days!

Putting a medical spin on it, (sorry to dampen the party spirit), but it has been proven that some bariatric patients may drink a very small amount of alcohol (that may have NOT caused their blood alcohol levels to go up PRE-OP) and will have a significant rise in blood alcohol levels POST-OP. For example, a bariatric patient went to her normal happy hour, had her normal 2 drink limit in 3 hours. No biggie for her. She then drove home and hit a child. Her blood alcohol was way over the legal limit. This was a RNY patient (makes sense anatomically). Word of mouth...

Well, considering I got a buzz off of half a can of beer before I even had surgery I have pretty much just given up on drinking. Certainly not like the old days, but alas, probably for the better! If anyone needs a designated driver I'm your man! Take care All, Julio

Per my surgeon's suggestion... This puppy does not drink alcohol anymore. I urge you to drink with caution. As well...not to further dampen things. There is the worry of dual addiction, which is very common among us "foodies". I got tipsy just from a "sea sick" pill recently. So I dare say alcohol is on my NO-NO list. And it is empty cals anyway. T.

I can drink mixed drinks with no problem at all. Did on vacation. Now, give me some red wine and sweeten it a little, and 3-4 ox puts me in never-never land. Cheaper drunk You need a ride for next Sat then?? Don't want you getting into an accident! Peter

I wasn't planning on drinking and driving... that is an "experiment" I will not be doing. This is all more due to having stuff left over from the party that got derailed due to the snow storm. Dave

Yeah...I am a cheap drunk...Need I remind you what happened with the brandy? One and I was tipsy....Couldn't finish the second one because was getting too drunk...Thank god I brought my own designated driver... I always do when I plan to have a drink....I usually stay dry, but I do like a glass of wine once in a while, and let's just say the size of the glass has drastically decreased since the surgery.... See you at the Dance next week, Love, Dorota
