Hi Melinda, I had a very hard time w/ the liquid diet. The Advanced recovery Shakes the surgeon had me drinking were making me nauseaus. YUCK! They put me on a Ketotic diet (???I think that was the name of it) It was very low sugar/carbs/fat and high protein. Basically I ate lettuce and grilled chicken all week, but that was a hell of a lot better than those damn shakes. I would of course check w/ your doctor. Sometimes they will give you an alternative or 2 if you are having a hard time. I called the nutritionist so I didnt have to feel like I was bugging the surgeon. Good Luck! Let me know how you did. Geez.... I feel for ya! My surgeon didn't require a liquid diet before surgery. Just a lite menu for the last 3 days before surgery, so I could have soups and salads, etc.

I am 5 days into the Advanced Recovery and yes, it makes me nauseous and gives me diarrhea. But I still do it. Hmm. But only 2 days left I guess. Here is my 2 cents - for the 1st 2 days, hunger is the worst. Then the next days or so, the nausea is the worst, then thereafter your system "cleanses" (eh hem) if you know what I mean. Drink some water, diet snapple, Swanson's chicken broth, jello, popsicles, anything else to keep you full until your next shake. You'll get through it. Good luck. Jen

Melinda, I did the liquid diet for the week before my surgery as well.. You know what... I didn't mind at all.. The first 2 days wee hard just because what do we do if we can't eat....... But after that I was SO excited about being THAT close to my surgery I didn't mind AT ALL!! REALLY!!!! If you have hunger pains maybe try (if if is part of the liquid diet) sugar free popscicles.. They help with the desire to chew and taste pretty good... all water really.... Just think you did it!! You are here!!! This is the LAT hurdle to get over and you will!!! BEST OF LUCK!! Carrie
