Medicare coverage for over 65
For any of you out there who are 65 years or older that have had qualms about being covered by Medicare for Gastric Bypass Surgery here is a link that really offers good news.
http://www.cms.hhs.gov/apps/media/press/release.asp?Counter=1786
Medicare will now cover those who are obese and have at least one or more of these or other diseases in addition to obesity such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, respiratory problems, and certain types of cancers.
Just wanted to share the good news to any other "senior citizen" out there that had reservations against RNY because of non coverage by Medicare for "seniors" 65 and older and couldn't afford the cost of such a surgery (about $25,000. for all - doctor, hospital and anesthesia).
I had my surgery on 12/13/05 and to date have lost 36 lbs, am off most of my medication (high blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes) and feel great.
Good luck to all,
Bobbi CT
