Please Help..
Do we use the junior or children's meltaways Tylenolwhat is this a pi for post-op if we need Tylenol? And for how long can't we have regular Tylenol. Also where can I find Slim Fast Zero Carbs and what about yogurt. Fat Free plain has kind of a lot of sugar...any other names that we can have immediately post op?
Hi Kristen. Right after surgery your diet will be just liquids. It will probably only be for a week. I used suger free carnation instant breakfast. At 2oz's a serving it goes a long way. Check with your doctor. The meds I was taking post op were crushed and mixed with a little non fat yoguert. Tylenol can be bought in liquid form as well. The first few weeks your more intersted in letting your pouch heal and staying hydrated, thats where sipping water, broth, suger free ice pops come in handy. You will be getting a menu of what you will be able to have as the weeks progress. I lved on instant breakfast and egg drop soup the first 2 weeks. Next stage will be more about getting your protien in. Take Care,
Julio
Kristen,
You'll be able to take "Tylenol Rapid Release" gelcaps right away after surgery. You don't have to worry about them getting stuck because they dissolve quickly once in the stomach. Dr Aranow ok's this for pain control. And you won't have to mess around with the children's stuff.
Not sure about the Slim Fast...
As far as yogurt goes. I used the Dannon Light and Fit and it has splenda in it, not sugar. They have it as drinkables and small cups. Make sure they are the reddish/pink containers, not the light blue ones (those have sugar)...
You can have sugar free pudding, Campbell's Healthy Request cream soups like chicken, etc.
Add some unflavored protein powder like Unjury or Beneprotein to boost your soups, etc.
Make sure to get in at least 65 gms of protein a day right when you're home, it'll be the first question Dr Aranow asks you at your two week visit. Getting your protein in is crucial for the staple lines to heal and to help prevent hair loss later on...try to get that protein down.
You'll be on liquids only for the first two weeks...
Follow the booklet that Elina gave you to explains all of the food stages and what is and is not allowable. This was a God send for me and I followed it like a bible!
Write everything you put into your mouth down on paper...including all your liquids in ozs...It'll help you tally your counts and see if you're getting enough in each day...
Write me if you have any questions!
good luck

Hi there,
I just bought regular liquid Tylenol (extra strength - for adults) Its a but more expensive, but they do make it. I bought it at CVS.
I liked the yorgurt thats low fat/sugar & Carb. I cant think what the name of it is. I am at work or I would look in my fridge. Its a small flat container - I want to say its carnation - I got the pink and white cups. Its pretty good. You can tell it tasts a bit different but its not bad.
I have no idea about the slim fast stuff, I never had that.
Let me know if you have anymore questions. I am right in front of you so I hopefully will have some answers for you.
Take care and good luck!
Bree
