I am a diabetic and I am 6 months post-op. My blood sugar levels were finally in normal range, but for the last month or so, they have been creeping back up. I stopped taking insulin and oral medication per my doctor's instructions. I am not sure why all of a sudden they are creeping back up. I just took a reading and my blood sugar was 187. I ate hummus with a salad, but did have some flat bread with it. Do you think the bread spiked it up? Any help and advice would be appreciated. Thanks Karen

Maybe your doctor needs to re-evaluate your situation. It was when I was about 6 or 7 months out that my blood sugar really began to be affected by what I ate. I was never diabetic but I suppose that my new body just reacted differently to foods. Maybe you should ask your doctor about it.

Hi Karen. Give your doctor a call. Get his opinion. I used to be a diabetic, used oral meds and walked out after surgery and never had to use any. You may want to start monitoring you suger levels to see if they stay fairly high of calm down after a while. The bread will make it spike so take another reading after a couple of hours. Take care, Julio

You cold be coming down with a virus too- you know things like that can spike it- remember your diabetes isn't GONE it's just under control.... Try looking at South Beach Book it has a lot of lists on the glycemic value of different foods. Thsi will help you decide what foods are better for you to eat in terms of not affecting your blood sugar negatively.
