Hey there, Since my husband doesn't grocery shop and I need to sort of have everything prepared for me when I get back from the hospital, what would you say are the best things to have in the house after getting home from RNY? My nutritionist recommended some things (like a sugar free sorbet to order), sugar free jello, stuff like that. But really what sorts of things does everyone have? Lists to me are my life. Thanks everyone. 2 weeks til I go in! Jen

Jen - Congrats on your upcoming surgery - best wishes! Here's what I lived on immediately post-op: IsoPure drinks (glass bottle-Alpine Punch, Blue Raspberry, Apple Melon) Sugar Free Jello Homemade clear chicken broth assorted protein shakes... I know the list seems small, but I was quite satisfied (amazingly so). Good luck!!! Hugs, Carla List makers unite - LOL!!!

Hey there Jen, Just all the basics like Carla listed. Stick with protein shakes, chicken broth, sf jello, sf applesauce, lots of waters, protein drinks like Isopure are the best too. Take care sweetie and good luck to you. Don't worry you will do fine, and your hubby will be great too. Mine was so supportive and so helpful you will be surprised how great they are when you really need them. If he needs any help tell him to email us here at the board and we will help in any way we can. Take care and stay strong. Love ya KimC

Hi, Besides all the great suggestions others have already given, I wanted to let you know what worked great for me. I went out ahead of time and bought little 4 oz plastic storage cups & lids and baby sized spoons in the infant department at the local Walmart. Also, a bunch of 1 oz sized medication cups, like the ones that come on top of medicines like Nyquill. To me they are a GOD-SEND for portion control. If you are taking pain meds, sometimes it isin't easy to judge how much you may be taking in. But by using only these things for my protein liquids, broth, etc, I knew exactly how much I was allowed. And yes,....as amazing as it seems, there will be times when you actually can't finish 2 oz of something! Best of luck with your surgery, Patrique Lap RNY 1/24/06

Hi Jen - Just incase you've never used them - PeaPod grocery delivery can come in really handy if you can't make it to the store - all the groceries come from Stop and Shop. I don't use them on a regular basis - but when I know the weekend is going to be crazy or the weather isn't going to be that hot, or if I'm sick I just order it all online and they give you a window of delivery - it only cost like an extra $8.00 plus tip (so really it's an extra $10) but it's so worth it if you need it! I know you won't be eating much of anything when you first get home - but in a pinch, it's good to know it's an option.......especially since your husband doesn't grocery shop! Best Regards, Tammy

I like the plain unflavored protein- Unjury or Beneprotein (you can find both online) It mixes with virtually everything from your coffee to creamy soups ( I like Cup of Soup Cream of Chicken ) to shakes. I just got a bunch of DaVinci flavored syrups to make shakes with- sugar free syrups- Davinci is also found online. Plain low fat yogurt- makes great smoothies. Crystal light in a variety of flavors. I like Sunburst Orange in the morning- tastes like Tang. Sugar Free Jello Pudding cups- it comes in Caramel and Chocolate and both are very tasty. Like Patrique said the little med cups are great for keeping you sipping instead of gulping. I asked my nurse for a bunch before I left the hospital. Good luck sweetie- we'll see you on the losing side soon!!!

Hi Jen, I didn't see anybody put "Suger free Ice pops" on your list so thought I would add it. Great way to take your liquids in a little at a time. I used a 2 ounce shot glass to eat my liquid out of with a baby spoon. Lets you eat slow. Take care and Best Of Luck!, Julio
