Question for Dr. Aranow's LapBand Patients

Hi all! I am in the process of having my last test taken tomorrow, an endoscopy. Since I will be looking at a date soon, I was curious if Dr. A puts you on a two-week pre-op liquid diet before surgery or if everything is on a case by case basis. I could call the office tomorrow but figured I'd ask the bandster's online first! Thanks guys! Angie

Angie, I just had my lap-band done last Friday (Feb. 3) and there was no pre-op diet. However, you are required to lose a certain amount of weight before they will submit to insurance - mine was 10lbs. Let me know if you have any other questions. Happy to help! Vanessa

Hi Angie! Sounds like things are moving along for you. Dr. A. did not require a liquid diet, but I was asked to lose 10 pounds before surgery. It is my understanding that all Dr. A's patients are required to drop some weight (the amount varies according to starting BMI I think) in order to shrink the liver and make it easier for the surgeon to work around it. I just had my endoscopy done this afternoon and now the last thing I have to do is lose 10 lbs...Funny, how you can get caught up into that "last supper" mindset if you arent careful!!!!
