Hello to all my OH family. I just wanted to wish you all a very safe weekend. I know we are suppose to be getting this blizzard tonight and tomorrow. I hope its not as bad as they are saying. Make sure your all home safe and warm. Stock up on all your necessities. Lots of supplies and movies. Thats what we did today. It seemed like the world was ending by the amount of people who were out today. I don't think it will be as bad as they say it will be, but who knows these weathermen are always wrong most of the time. All I know is that I don't think it could ever be as bad as the storm of 1978. I remember I was in highschool and our buses could not make it home, we had to walk the rest of the way in alot of snow. My dad was stuck at work for two days, he worked for the New Haven Register off Orange Street back then and my neighbor had to get my mom at work with his snowmobile on Quinnipiac Avenue where she was stuck with a coworker in her car, she worked for First Bank in New Haven back then. It was the worst I had ever seen. It was a beautiful sigh****ching it snow, but man when it was done it looked like the Antartic. We could not even see the houses it was so high. What a memory that was for us growing up. I know some of you remember that. Tell your stories of where you were and how old you were when that blizzard hit. I will be telling my grandkids in the future about that storm and Hurricane Gloria back in the 80s. Well everyone hope your all enjoying your weekend and having a great one. Can't wait to see some of you in a couple of weeks at the Spring Gala. I am so excited about going, I can't wait to dance and meet some of my OH friends I chat with and see people I have become friends with too. Its going to be a blast. HAPPY WEEKEND EVERYONE, HAVE SOME FUN IN THE SNOW IF YOU CAN!! Hugs KimC

I took a roasting chicken out of the freezer so I'll make that for tomorrow. I'll only shovel the steps and make a path in the walk way and have the drive way plowed. I don't want to give myself a heart attack.

Smart thinking Richard. After a particulary bad winter a couple of years ago I went to Sears and bought myself a monster snow blower. I figured the price I paid for it wouldn't cover the ambulance ride to the hospital if I had a heart attack. I'm sure we will get thru this as we do thru just about anything so don't let the ranting going on this" Monster Storm" phase you. It's just those TV weathermen's joy showing at a hectic weather event. Sunday would be a good day to roast a chicken, I have the same plans for a Pork Roast myself! Take Care, Julio Julio

I remembered that storm also.... I moved the day before it happened! That's not bad, but I had left Joanne here in New Britain with her girlfriend while 6 months preg!. Moved for a new job, and Joanne joined me after Jessica was born in May. I have some great stories about how they handle snow in North Carolina, and expecially Greensboro. Huge town, and they used road graders as snow plows. Yup. Kept all 6 of them on the roads! This storm will fall way short of that one. Just a minor aggrivation in another of life's steps. And, back to work today @ noon anyway. Peter

Yikes. It is really coming down now here at the shore. My 16 year old son has been out plowing all nite. But hes home taking a short nap now. I made a large pot of beef broth last nite and today will use it to make beef barley soup. Yummmm. During the storm of '78 I was newly married and working at the hospital. I got into work and almost wasn't able to get home. They had a bed ready for me but hubby came and got me. I remember baking chocolate chip cookies and handing them out to the National guardsman who were using back hoes to clear the smaller roads. Stay warm everyone. And be careful shoveling. I just read a report that it may not be the heavy snow that causes the heart atttacks but the barometric pressure. But that doesn't mean not to use caution. Help the economy and pay a kid..if you can find one. Linnie

Kim - I remember the storm of '78!! I was a partying teenager (I was only 14) - my friend and I somehow got someone to buy us pints of brandy. We went to the local elementary school where there was a snow drift over 8ft high in front of the school, we dragged ourselves over the snow drift and under an awning and it was like a snow fort, we sat in there and got totally stinking drunk on brandy.........oh man, I could NEVER drink that stuff now! I think I drank enough as a teenager to last me a life time! I was kind of a wild child - but always a good kid - LOL - what a memory! We have 3 feet of snow now and it's still coming down like CRAZY - it's half way up my sliding door! I wonder if the Governor is going to close the state? It would be so nice to have a snow day from work! I heard we're supposed to have 49 degree weather on Thursday - break out the sun block! Keep warm and dry everyone! Best Regards, Tammy Count Down: 24 Days!

A bit of advice from my eye doctor: Put on your sunglasses BEFORE you step outside. When you are inside your eyes are dialated-wide open, stepping out into the bright sun and glare from the snow can do damage to your eyes.
