I'm going for it!
Hello everyone. Well, I've finally made up my mind and
I'm going for the surgery. I plan on having the lap by-pass done. My PCP has recommeded Dr. Barajas.I attended my first meeting wed night
at St. Raphaels (so much info to absorb), and I plan on going next Wed also. I know I have only taken the first step of a long journey but at least I've started the process. Now I guess its time to sit back and enjoy the ride to the new me.
welcome richard, you will love this group...they are wonderful. I had my lap RNy on jan 31st with Dr Nadzam, I chose him because I prefer neurotic docs(ha ha ha) actually I just seemed to really enjoy his manner(he gave the lecture at the meeting I went to....anyhow, he and all the rest of the team are INCREDIBLE....ESPECIALLY Gloria !!!! she is the wonderkid behind the desk that fights with the insurance company for you, she is so nice and understanding....I wish you the best, if you have any questions this newbie can answer, holler away.....if you get a date, let me know, hopefully by then I will be back to work in the great city of new haven... and may see you at a meeting.....enjoy the ride!!!!!-Drea
Hi, Richard!
Welcome to the CT board. Good luck with your journey. The dance that Towanda mentioned in her post is the 2nd annual WLS Spring Gala. It's being held on Sat., Mar. 4th, at Il Monticello on the Meriden-Wallingford line, so it's not far from you in North Haven. I posted all of the details yesterday. Please consider coming and meeting a lot of the people from this board from all over the state.

Congratulation on taking the first step of a process that you will never regret, hopefully. I am also a "newbie" and just starting also. Just had my bloodwork done this morning. One of many more appointments to go.
This site is fantastic, so much info. See you on the losing side.
For once in my life I wouldn't mind being called a "LOSER" LOL LOL
Think I'll get on my and get out of here.
Best wishes,
Joe

If you can come to the Gala in March and meet some of us and you will see how well everyone has done and how great everyone is. This is the right place to be.
Good Luck and if you need an angel don't hestitate to contact me I am always available for support.

Congratulations on your decision Richard, it is liberating when you finally say to yourself - this is the direction I'm heading - that's the way it was for me anyway. I made my decision in June to go down the WLS path and I just got my date for surgery (March 8th!!). It is like a part time job navigating all the doctor visits, tests, and labs and then it's like herding cats getting everyone to send their paperwork in - but if you take it one day at a time, one obstacle to get over at a time, eventually you get to the goal to save your own life - how cool is that?
Best of luck on your journey - take a deep breath and I'm glad you're going to enjoy the ride, that's a GREAT attitude!
Best Regards,
Tammy
