I am so happy today and would like to share how incredilble it feels to be out of the 3's......I started this journey at 340 in Nov, 327 in September(when I met with the 1st surgeon) and 308 last tuesday (operation drea day),,,,today I am at 296. ..(Done bragging,honest)...so my question is....why are there so many varied post op rules? every doc seems to have different ones and what have you all found that worked( I'm not complaining...just trying to learn more) I had a LapRNY (1/31/06)and am not sure how much exercise I should do, my doc says no gym for 4 weeks and just keep moving, however my dad's doc pushes the miles ....what have you found effective? I went out to run erands today with my guy and now feel like I am 100 yrs old? And does anyone know a doc that forbids laundry duty...I'd like to postpone that a long as possible....LOL thanks for any and all response............Drea

HEY DREA, CONGRATS ON GETTING OUT OF THE 3's...I KNOW HOW U FEEL ON THAT...I WAS 344 WHEN I STARTED MY JOURNEY...AND NOW IM DOWN TO 238 AND IM 6 & 1/2 MONTHS OUT....MY 1st MONTH OUT I DIDNT DO ANY LIFTING UNTIL MY DOC SAID I COULD AND I DIDNT OVER DO IT...AS FAR AS THE LAUNDRY, I HAD MY KIDS BRING IT UP & DOWN THE STAIRS FOR ME BUT I PUT THEM IN THE WASHER & DRYER & FOLDED THEM....MY KIDS DID THE RUNNING FOR ME UNTIL I FELT THAT I COULD DO IT ON MY OWN...I TOOK MY DOC'S ADVICE AND LIKE I SAID 'I DIDNT OVER DO IT'...DIDNT WANT ANY UNWANTED PROBLEMS.....I ALSO WENT AND BOUGHT AN EXERCISE BALL WITH STRAPS SO I COULD GET SOME TONING DONE ON MY ARMS AND CHEST...PLUS I HAVE AN EXERCISE BIKE PLUS IM WALKIN AROUND WHERE I LIVE (alone in the day)..IF U HAVE STAIRS IN YOUR PLACE TRY TO GO UP THEM A LITTLE FASTER EACH MONTH TO GET A WORKOUT...IVE NOTICED SINCE I STARTED DOING THAT I CAN GET UP THEM PRETTY FAST NOW....YOU CAN PROBABLY DO STRETCHING EXERCISES AT HOME WITHOUT OVERDOIN IT...... GOOD LUCK ON YOUR JOURNEY..... ANNETTE IN EAST HAVEN,CT

Congrats on your weight loss! I started out at 348 when I had surgery and I thought I would cry when they told me I was 299. Its just so exciting to see that the surgery is working! As far as exercise, follow your doctor's advice. I was crazy and went back to work a week and a half after surgery, was constantly pooped, achy and just plain miserable for a good 6 weeks. Today I think it was because I pushed myself to do things too fast. And as far as laundry, I am almost 10 months out and I wish I could find a doctor that would forbid that for me!

Congratulations on the loss!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I were you, I'd listen to your dr. and follow his instructions, but that's if I were you which obviously I'm not. Good Luck, Joe

Hey Andrea, Thats wonderful congratulations to you. I remember when I started at 325 and finally got out of the threes at 6mths postop. I am now 213 and feeling great. Your doing great. Keep up the good work and don't overdue it on the lifting. Be careful with that. Take it slow. Take care and god bless. hugs KimC

Yeah for you!!!!!! As for the laundry- 4 kids need I say more? Yeesh- I have one of the front loading extra big capacity washers- still feel like it never stops running. Dr Aranow gives you basically no restrictions- he feels people will self restrict based on how they feel- just no driving for the first two weeks (mainly until the incision is healed and narcotic use is over) Most of the restrictions are for open procedures- you had LAP you should be in good shape to at least do walking, and stair climbing (in the house)

Hey Andrea, I have to admit...I am in my 7th post-op month now and still do not have an exercise program. I do however, notice that I have a ton more energy and with the kids, I am CONSTANTLY on the go and running up and down the stairs all day...(or so it seems!! lol) I didn't do any exercise for the first few months as I just didn't feel up to it. I knew my body would let me know when the time was right and little by little I took on more and more activities and chores without even realizing it. I have gone from 274 to the 150's (size 22/24 to a size 6 now) at 5'7" and feel terriffic. Just do what your surgeon says-they are giving you thrie best advice best on their experience. Who knows better then them...? Good luck! Sounds like you are doing SUPER!!!! Oh, and I did do the laundry...just made the kids bring it down and take the piles back up after I folded them.... Regards, Laurie
