Hi, I've been sick all week long....can't hold anything in at all. I'm drinking some fluids but they are making me very nauseaus and soon after, I'm in the toilet (sorry) with diarrahea... I'm putting protein powder in broth and drinking that, but it's not staying in too long... Has anyone here had the flu with loss of fluids/food and what did you do? What did you doctor tell you to do? Does Dr Aranow prescribe anything? I haven't phoned Dr A or Lois yet...I don't think I'm dehydrated, yet...I'm sipping water...but my muscles and body aches something awful. Just don't know if I can take anything to stop the diarrahea or not...I read WLS patients should not to take anti-diarraheal stuff. I ate about 4 SF popsicles last night because I could feel that I was a bit dehydrated..I also made jello with unflavored Unjury in it. Any help/advise is appreciated. Have been in bed all day long, except to go and drop off and pick my kids up from school... Hubby still requires his dinner, but I just can't cook...poor baby! paula

Paula, I haven't had the flu yet as a post op, so I don't have much advice. I think though that with the flu, your fluids are more important than protein until you are feeling a little better. How about some chicken broth and some saltines and maybe some flat ginger ale. If you are tolerating the popcicles and jello, keep up with that.. maybe the protein powder is too much for you right now though. I don't know.. just my thoughts I hope you feel better soon! terri

Hi Paula, While I had it out with the "Flu", I didn't have the Tummy trouble that your having go along with it. Definitly call your doctor for some advice as having Diarrahea for a week is not good for a person in any condition. So keep trying to get some liquid in you and get a hold of your doctor. Good luck! If your muscles ache chances are you are dehydrated- keep on eye on your urine color, the darker it gets the dehydrated-er you are. Keep an eye on how your tongue and lips look (cracked? then you are dry) Tylenol for fever and aches, don't do anti diarrheal for a virus- its better to let the virus "run" its course (sorry for that) Keep the sip sip sipping up-I would knock off the protein powder for a few days- until things settle- clear liquids only - Hubby and the kids can order Dominos- you go to bed. I don't have any idea how much sugar is in Pedialyte- if its low sugar you may want to try that to rehydrate. Propel water is good too. Chicken broth too-that has potassium and sodium in it to replenish you. Good luck- hope you feel better- poor thing- how come mom's never get to call in sick?
