627 lb Woman on TLC
Has anyone ever seen this special on TLC about a 627 lb woman who had gastric bypass? It has been on several times but I never watched it until last night. It was presented very well I thought. It showed the woman's struggles pre and post op, and she was not without issues.
The major thing is that it made me feel very grateful in general. My journey with RNY has been pretty much complication free, nothing that I would really complain about and I have lost 140 lbs in 9 months. This show reminded me what a blessing WLS has been for me.
Hi Christine,
I saw that last night too. I thought they did a good job with the show. They were very respectful of the woman and her issues. My heart really went out to her. Right now I'm having my post-op emotional swings so, needless to say, it got me a little ver klempt.
Did you happen to catch the show before it? There was a show tiltled Big as Life: Obesity in America. I would have liked to see that, but missed it. Anyone out there see it or know if it's going to be on again??
Have a great day everyone.
All the best,
Bob
Hi Christine, Hi Bob!
I also watched that show....I got so teary eyed....it was put together very well! That woman was very courageous to do what she did....my heart went out to her. I sure hope they do an update show on her. I would love to see how she made out!
Bob, I saw the show before as well...Big as Life, Obesity in America. I am not sure when it will air again, but definitley a great show. It showed many different obese people talking about thier issues, and some had surgery, some tried on thier own, there was one woman who had surgery and gained all her weight back plus some.....it was scary...she was a larger woman who probably weighed 400 pounds. If I find when they will air it again , I'll let you know! You must be like me.....watching the tube while recouping! How are ya holding up?
Talk to you soon! Take care!

Nothing on TLC, but Bob you mentioned post op mood swings? I know that you recently had recon-surgery right? is this what you are talking about? or just post op in general. I am15 months out and have been having a lot of mood swings. I thought it was menopause, but that was not the case. Is there such a thing? I think I am going through it, and need to know what to do as I am driving my fiance out of my life!!!! Is there information regarding this, or is it normal? Sometimes I think that I am losing my mind and it is racing, or I wonder if I did the right thing. A lot of my mood swings are when I see the skin hang, and I don't know if the credit union is going to refinance my home so that I can get plastic surgery which is needed. Is anyone else feeling this?
Thanks

Hello all,
I am so mad I missed it. I hope they air those two shows again. I am not feeling so good, I don't know why but my tummy hurts and I am going alot. I have gas pains and cramping. I think it may be not eating right. Not sure.
I had some tea this morning, and I am so tired, I am going to rest alot today. I will check their website to see when it may be on again. I will let everyone know.
Well gotta go having cramps again.

I happened to catch the show by accident. It was followed by "The Half-ton Man", then followed by a show where a woman was pregnant for 45 years. They didn't know it until she had pains, and they found a calcified baby that had grown to term in her womb. They showed the dead corpse and cut it in half to show the organs.
To me, this was like the Enquirer on the Discovery Channel. Although they did do a good job covering the woman, I can't help thinking that they aired these for their sensationalism. The woman had lots of complications, but they never said if they were resolved and never showed the final outcome. I hate to always be the naysayer, but I don't think they showed these pieces to educate the audience, but more to get a rise out of them. One person's view...

Christine,
I caught this show last time it was on. What a story that was. Good for her and good for all of us too.
To answer one of the other posts. This special has been on a few times so I am sure it will be on again soon. There is another one about a man too. He actually stayed in a nusring home cause everytime he went home he had more complications.
I am a TLC fanatic. I will try to give you a heads up next time I see its coming on.
Good day to all!

I was watching "Scientific American" on CPTV early sunday morning and watched a show about Obesity surgery. Alan Alda was going thru the different surgerys with a doctor and they showed how the operations were done. Was interesting to see how they actually did it. I will check in at TLC and see when the show you folks were talking about will air again. Take Care, Julio
